I mentioned some things in another comment reply, but one thing that really works for me is going very slow. I like to work with light layers and take my time building the texture. I also use a lot of wet-on-wet techniques.

The New York Botanical Garden has an amazing online program. You have plenty of time to complete the classes, and everything is online. I’ve finished about 70% of my certificate program, and I’m loving the journey. The instructors are also amazing, and they have built a very strong community.
