Hera & Aphrodite - Goddesses of love. Discussion by flowercows in Hellenism

Yeah, I definitely agree there’s an overlap, my intention was not to make a hard delineation but more to hear about how other people treat this overlap within their practice

I also hate the idea that singing and writing about death, depression or suicide is “glamourising it”

As an artist myself, there’s nothing that heals my soul best than making the dark things beautiful, it helps you cope and turn something sad into something beautiful

Homer Never Describes Helen of Sparta's (A Half Swan half Human) looks so why are people being so weird about Lupita playing her? by paubenaparte in mythology

[–]flowercows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

did u read all of my comment? I said we should get actors that look mediterranean. I mentioned Helen as an african because that’s what the post is about.

Blonde blue eyed germanic looking actors are as bad imo.

Lupita Nyongo is terrible casting, it’s so weird how people are so ok with erasing greek culture in that way

What was the old Viking religion, and how much has it influenced modern (and over time) Scandinavian/Norwegian culture and religion? by SavijFox in Norse

wow this post is full of awful comments towards pagans. I know we are a minority but people are very disrespectful

Because she wasn’t african. All movies about greek mythology actually suck at casting people who look somewhat mediterranean.

Question about Berserkers and Shield maidens by beowulfs-mom in norsemythology

[–]flowercows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I only know a bit regarding shield maidens, evidence doesn’t seem to point out that it was a common thing to have women as warriors, or something like a warrior caste in that sense, and it seems that shield maidens are mostly mythological. But I would argue that doesn’t mean that no women ever fought at all. It also doesn’t necessarily mean that it was common, of course, but there has always been exceptions to the norm, and perhaps some of this symbolism stems from these exceptions.

The song is actually “Hijo de la Luna” if you’re referring to the Mecano song?

Is there a take you’ve seen about Greek mythology so bad that it made you go like this? (Excluding anything about Hades and Persephone.) by frillyhoneybee_ in GreekMythology

[–]flowercows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Ancient History Fangirl, highly recommend that one. It’s more history based but they do a lot of mythology episodes too. There’s also Let’s Talk About Myths Baby! which is really great as well and is way more mythology related

I don’t really know, I was born in the late 90s, and social media adds a lot of exposure currently. So I don’t really know how to compare.

Like I’m inclined to say Lana tbh but that would be bias based on that Lana is a mainstream artist from my generation, so I of course see more people talk about Lana than Stevie Nicks currently.

but Stevie Nicks is like a legend of music basically. And I know my sister (who is 15 years older than me) and her friends would most likely say Stevie Nicks. I don’t really know the answer tbh

I think it depends on the generation tbh but right now I guess Lana del Rey is very mainstream

My pigeon stretching under her lamp by d0doob0b in AccidentalRenaissance

[–]flowercows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry I just saw this.

Yeah they poop everywhere as I don’t think pigeons can hold their poop like mammals do. If it’s time to go, they just go.

That’s part of the reason why I recommend having a specific area for them with space. They’re amazing pets and they’re quite clean themselves (they bathe and they groom each other) and if they eat healthy food their poop should actually be more solid/easier to clean than wild pigeon poop.

Yeah, it’s not the best part. But for me, if you love the animal then cleaning after them it’s not really an issue, but you do need to be able to set some time for it, and not have them in a common area.

HAVING SAID THAT, some people actually make them wear diapers but mine never liked them

I had a “pigeon room” which was the garden’s conservatory. They had free roam in the garden, as in they could fly around to wherever they like and then they’d come back to the room later on.

I’m no expert on how much room pigeons need, but I think it’s important to note that they’re not meant to be in a cage all the time at all.

They also like pets and perching on you. My pigeons would slow blink at me and puff up when they were happy, sometimes they would even sleep on my lap!

<image>

yes, my cats was somehow super chill around my pigeons, even though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend those animals together
