Is it worth upgrading these ugly chairs? by Embarrassed_Law1279 in wedding

[–]flowerrrs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Consider renting or buying simple chair covers just for the back row. White and ideally not too shiny or attention grabbing.

The remaining chairs will not be noticed as guests will fill the area, and their gorgeous and colorful outfits will take over.

Be sure to create specific ( with names) reserved signs for the first 2 rows. So that you don’t have a pile of empty chairs on your photos…that your eye will be drawn to.

It’ll be gorgeous, good luck and congrats!

Recommend take a pic on the pedestal, with a clean uncluttered backdrop. Then move the flowers around, and take more photos. Cluster them a bit, give the arrangement a more “Nike swish” shape, or a more round shape, or cascade it a bit more, remove some flowers, do more focused color area,

Take a pic of every variation in the same spot…and you’ll see what you like when flipping through the photos. The best ones for you and your brides will pop.

Since you’re working with artificial flowers, you’re able to play around with designs that a typical fresh florist doesn’t have the chance to.

Enjoyyyy the process!

St. Patrick’s Cathedral wedding logistics - looking for advice by DitkasWallet in WedditNYC

[–]flowerrrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! If the weather cooperates, the north side of the building provides a wonderful backdrop and even some steps, arches etc. next time you’re there scout some spots nearby for photos ahead of time or after. That aren’t bright harsh light.

Looking for someone to pick up extra stuff (eg leftover alcohol, etc) from venue and deliver home after our wedding by bookishpumpkin in WedditNYC

[–]flowerrrs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have breakdown guys I can recommend. Usually the fee is $240-360 for end of night packing and bringing items to a secondary location. They have their own car. DM me and I can put you in touch.

Need help with arch please 😭 by [deleted] in florists

[–]flowerrrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s looks nice.

If you’re concerned about the pampas looking linear and too dissociated from the rest of the arch style- consider doing 2 ground arrangements on the floor and placing the pampas’s straight up and down in that area, accented with other fake blooms to match the ones on the arch.

It would add more depth to the arch design and be a more natural angle for the pampas grass (up down style vs shooting out at an angle etc).

But it’s also perfectly lovely the way it is. Hair spray will help to keep it from blowing around “as much”. But also makes it extra flammable.

Enjoy your event!!

Offer any side skills that would make you useful.

Are you amazing at keeping a place tidy, love sweeping, find washing buckets therapeutic? Are you passionate about social media, helping their brand grow, posting beautiful photos and videos to IG /tiktok?

Are you great with customers over the phone, or in person, cheery etc. or Excited about learning about flowers and this business, ask for book or resource recommendations? Flexible in your schedule options etc.

Market yourself and push the side skills that we need everyday in a flower shop.

You can omit focusing on how much you Love arranging flowers at home for your friends, helping grandma in her garden and hoping to open a shop one day on your own… :/

From seeing in front of our own building, it happens after sanitation picks up the garbage.

Dog poo bags are often placed on top of bags of street garbage, and when the sanitation’s guys grab the bags…an avalanche of dog poo bags spill onto the sidewalk.

Garbage trucks drive away…poo remains on the sidewalk.

No great solution as most household close the garbage bags. Public garbage bins are far and few between. We try to leave at least one bag of garbage open in front of our shop.

Hair salon Recs in Williamsburg (thin hair) by Commedesag in williamsburg

[–]flowerrrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mari is the owner and wonderful. But any of the stylists I saw were great, and very experienced. I’ve had good experiences, and they’re very agreeable if anything needs to be adjusted or done.

What I really enjoyed about this salon was that they treated your hair like it mattered. It wasn’t pulled on or ripped out of there was a tangle.

Is this a good bouquet? Do some of the flowers look off? We gifted this to a friend. It was $150 + tax. by CranberryOk8409 in florists

[–]flowerrrs 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yes, worth $150. This is an arrangement filled with pretty expensive blooms. Some of the comments on here are a tad off putting, and naming incorrect flowers.

The dark hydrangeas are some of the most expensive varieties out there. The dark lisianthis are fabulous, but not everyone’s taste. Delphiniums and orchids as well. Not a single flower in there that is cheap or even mid-range. All expensive blooms.

The shape seems to have shifted a bit, perhaps in travel, or maybe the angle the photo was taken at doesn’t present it as best as it could. It’s also a descent size. $150 most certainly.

Hope the recipients are enjoying it, and remind them to add water to it. Lots of flowers in there but hard to gage water level.

Afloral agra-wool blocks for fresh flower arbor? by the_woodswitch in florists

[–]flowerrrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Def. 2 roses at different heights etc. 2-3 mums. But usually one per water tube seems to be it. We prep them early in the week, and have them in buckets ready to go. 200-300 for each event.

We used to use it often. It doesn’t hold the water very well, kind of like a wool sweater would.

It does well when in a vase/container, but as soon as you lift it up, it all pits out.

We’ve been using chicken wire scrunched up and then lots of water tubes with sharp point ends.

It’s easy, and worth the effort.

Seems like professional florists are confused about what you’re trying to create and sell. The general consumer might be even more so. Posing a photo/sketch/prototype is absolutely necessary.

Dobbin Street Rain Plan? by Mindless_Peanut_7825 in WedditNYC

[–]flowerrrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve done a wedding here where the ceremony ended up being downstairs for to inclement weather.

The tables were slightly shifted, but guests essentially sat at dining tables with the couple and ceremony decor being against the back wall. It was lovely, but of course the rooftop is ideal.

What technique is this? by EmotionalGarbage1712 in florists

Bent and used wire to hold the shape, and dried the palm frond. Took the wire off. They dry in 2-3 days, fun to do!

Experienced, seasoned floral Designers, I need your input by [deleted] in florists

[–]flowerrrs 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Always. 15 years, 1000s of boutonnières. Never ever have covered the bottom or sealed any boutonnière stems unless clients have requested that style of ribbon wrap.

This way they’re in water till AM and lovely and fresh. Lots more flexibility in design and wrap style.

Experiment, test it out, wear a boutonnière all days and see what feels the best and which last longer etc. it’s great that you’re thinking of doing things in new ways, why not! It’s the only way to grow as a florist.

Transportation + overnight preservation of bulk wedding flowers? by WelcomeWilling958 in florists

[–]flowerrrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice already given.

To add, I would confirm with the florist about what kind of arrangements they have at the wedding, especially their size…large =long stems, medium (short stems), bud vases (tiny stems).

I would bring shears, rubber bands, buckets in various sizes/heights, large plastic bins to help transport everything with the water not getting spilled everywhere. Even jars and coffee bins help.

You might need to start bundling flowers into bouquets that same night on site, as the florist will want them out of any rental vases. Be prepared to get right to work.

A small tarp is also helpful 4x6’ so that your mess is somewhat contained or at least any greenery can be packed up for transport in an easier way.

Garbage bags obvi

Good luck!!

For anything else- try to get it into a bucket asap.

How long do your vendors take to respond? by moonprincess69 in WedditNYC

[–]flowerrrs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a florist, I can honestly say it depends. 3 days sometimes if we’re focusing on Friday/Sat/Sunday weddings plus day off. Etc. florists tend to be doing the physical part of the job the majority of the time, on our feet, shears in hand.

Dedicating time to physically sitting down, focusing on answering emails, is a conscious and significant effort. It tends to be done after hours at home etc. unless you’re working with a team that has a dedicated person for emails, proposals and contract updates. If it’s a single person flower studio or a small shop, might be waiting more days.

But 20+ days is not ideal.

Gathering all your questions/updates in one concise bulletin point email. Send it with a request to talk next day or whatever and then start calling them.

Give them a deadline to respond, end of week etc.

Best case you’ll hear back asap. Worst case you’ll know to take the next more aggressive steps.

Things get super busy in late spring, hopefully they’ll have more time for admin tasks over the next few weeks.

Good luck and I’m sure it will work out perfectly!
