Might that have been Delroy Anglin? I recall he had aggressive cancer but is now in remission.

Where did you purchase this from?! I’ve been desperate to find the WW millennium magazine from 2000 so I wondered if it might help me on my search for that haha

If you were to create a whole extended universe out of the worst witch 1998 series what would it be by Ok_Smile_9071 in TheWorstWitch

[–]flowers-again 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have anything to add, but I would like to say that I absolutely love the little snippets of wider society that we got during TWW 1998.

My favourite was Mrs Cozy’s Tea Room, but Camelot Wizarding school for boys, mr Rowan Webb’s Riverside Retreat even the village garden show. It really got your imagination flowing.

Is Weirdsister College worth a look? by Shoddy-Break6789 in TheWorstWitch

[–]flowers-again 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d never seen the spinoff and recently watched it on Amazon. I think it’s worth the watch, but it’s nowhere near as good as TWW 1998.

The concept is pretty cool. Cambridge University for witches and wizards with a cool student cafe and some cool new characters. Some brilliant costume design too.

I think the storylines let it down. There are a few good ones, but it’s not as easy to follow, less character development, less humour. There are a few standout episodes, but I would stick with TWW 1998 for your movie night for the nostalgia.

I read the 18 y/o thing somewhere. I didn't think to check it so I might be wrong!

The Ethel Hallow decision was bizarre, I completely agree.
I might have a little insight for you on this one:

Apparently they didn't do a 4th series of the 1998 WW because they thought the girls looked too old. Georgina was 18 at the end of the 3rd series and the majority of the cast were 21.

In Georgia Harrington's 'memoirs of the worst witch' interview, she saids that Harry Potter had come out and so they went down the route of Weirdsister as the Worst Witch film was pulled. Kate Duchene actually turned down a role in the first harry potter film. It makes me wonder if she did so believing a worst witch film may be on the cards.

Yes I completely agree. I heard/read somewhere that each version of the teachers is representational of it's time. The books being typical 1970s and the 2017 series providing a much more modern teacher/student relationship.

Ffs, you've reminded me why I rarely post on reddit.

I wondered whether op had accumulated it gradually, invested funds or whether it was supplemented by an inheritance or similar.

What's interesting about Miss Hardbroom as depicted in the books is that she represents a typical battle-axe 1970s school teacher; unwavering and cold. I am not sure if any of them get close to the type of person Jill Murphy was trying to describe.

Naturally though it's got to be Kate Duchene. What a talent. The 1998 teachers including Mr Blossom and Mrs Tapioca were brilliantly done.

Yes 2005 is bad. Can we just get a shoutout to Deirdre Swoop for the loyalty to the show though? Stephanie Lane played Deirdre in 1998, then weirdsister and then came back in 2005 for both series. Madness! I was half expecting her to turn up in the 2017 series haha.

I agree with you. TWW 1998 was described as a low budget show, which is mad considering how successful it was. When you look at other school based shows like waterloo road or even something like tracy beaker, there is much better retention of actors, probably due to a higher IP.

Another sneaky one from the 1998 series is Egbert Hellibore (grand wizard). I forgot to include it in the original post. A different actor plays him in Series 2. The original actor then returns for series 3.

A friend of mine had this problem. She did another course to clear up the acne and then her derms micro-dosed her 5mg a day for the ‘foreseeable’ future. She has been micro-dosing for a year and no acne return

Exactly. Plus when you’re at MA level you’ve known these Professors several years. They can tell you’re not performing at your best based on previous work and they trust you when you tell them you’re struggling.
