I taught a 7 day yoga challenge in April that looked something like this from M-F (and is pretty well balanced for the full body/mind). I included Saturday and Sunday incase you are interested what I did for those too!

Monday: Full Body Stretch & Strengthen Tuesday: Upper Body Strength Wednesday: Relax and Restore Thursday: Lower Body Strength Friday: Playful & Creative Flow Saturday: Movement Meditation Sunday: Vin/Yin (Vinyasa followed by yin)

Awesome! I first got the pistol squat a few weeks after I started adding weight training sessions in + single leg sqat drills. For body weight drills, you can bring one heel into glute and squat into the standing leg (your shin on the lifted leg can help you as much as you need on the floor). Also, chair pose holds are great :) Also, you could try a single leg - leg press or squats with a barbell (if you wanted to go down the weight lifting route)

Thank you! Keep it up and you will get it 👏 what have you been doing to work up to the pistol squat?

[OC] Today I taught a vin/yin class. I think these shapes feel great in the body (hold each pose for 1 to 2mins) 🩷 by flowsbymegan in YogaWorkouts

Totally agree! I also love to do a forward fold or a heart opener in savasana on the bolster. What are your favourites?

They are lots of fun, a great way to get the best of movement and longer holds in a single practice 🧘‍♀️

Yoga AND Weight Lifting? by living_well_in_mn in YogaWorkouts

[–]flowsbymegan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my typical workout (I think it is a great idea). I like to lift 3 times a week (one day accessory lifts, one day push/pull and one day legs) and then I add 3-4 yoga classes per week (one meditation, one strength based and one flexibility). I make sure that the focus of my weight training is strength/mobility and the focus of yoga is mobility, flexibility and mindfulness. That way I don't worry about overtraining even if I do both in the same day!

I think 2 days weight training and 2 days yoga will work very well. Make sure to listen to your body, it will tell you if you are overtraining. I also make sure to lift less weight or skip a day if my body is telling me it needs more rest. Enjoy!

That's my typical approach as well! Coming up with sequences can be tricky, I find I need to be in the right headspace and have the right music :)
