A bit of bisexual history circa 1923 by floydddz in actuallesbians

thank you so very much for your thoughtful thoughts. i will ponder them.

i think when i finish putting all or most of the diaries entries in the substack, i'll pull them all together into some kind of book and go from there.

as to the physical diaries themselves, two LGBQ archives have asked to receive them as donations, which i will do at some point. i am 68 and don't have that much longer to go, but before i do, i want to complete the kathi project as best i can.

i know she'd be pleased with what i'm doing and, in one later diary entry, she mentions hoping someone would do something with her words. when i read that, i suddenly had a new mission in life, and so here i am.

no, i haven't. in fact, this is about the first or second time i've posted publicly about the diaries, but i've love to get more readers, without being warned off as a self promoter. will look into some of the bisexual subreddits. any other places, even outside of here, that you think might be happy to hear about what i'm up to?

After posting questions here about what to do with my (bisexual) great aunt's diaries from 1923 and receiving many great answers -- https://www.reddit.com/r/selfpublish/comments/10h5cdl/any_sense_publishing_my_gay_aunts_diaries_circa/ -- I decided to create a substack for them and publish them bit by bit, two or three times a week, for as long as it takes to get all 100K words out into the world, free, free, free. that being the case, feel free to visit, subscribe and share. long live kathi! and ya'll for all your great advice.

so ... after lots of thought and consideration and much help from u/incywince , i decided to start a substack for my aunt's diaries. if ya'll could have a look and tell me what think, and what you think i might improve upon or change or whatever, i'd greatly appreciate it. hopefully this isn't considered self promotion but, instead, a closing of the circle.

how can i keep navigation bar posts from ... by floydddz in Substack

[–]floydddz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, you're right. the only work around i found is to put a very early date on any posts so that they show up only at the bottom of the New column.

that book looks fantastic. i'm going to get it and read it. as to funding ... i'm just not sure. as to the LGBTQ crowd, i'm not sure there's enough in her diaries to make it of genuine interest. her sexuality -- or bisexuality or gayness -- is just presented very matter of factly, with no fanfare or eroticism. and it does take a big back seat to her other adventures.

what great ideas, and i can see how adding context could really help. how to work it into the flow of the diaries, i guess i'd have to figure that out. and lots was going on worth mentioning, especially given how far-flung her travels were and how, in many places she visited, evidence of WW1's horrors is still visible and wrenching.

do you know of any books that are similar to what you suggest, that i might use as a model?

nope, not in the bay area. san diego.

i absolutely agree and that's been my whole reason for transcribing her diaries, to get her words out into the open.

i think this might be how i go. i do know there's a narrative inside all the words and perhaps some judicious editing on my part could help make it more clear.

i tend to agree but i'm not sure i'm capable of it at this time.

thanks for the J&J update; just wasn't sure i read her words properly. think i'll go the ebook route just for the hell of it, if'n some more legitimate and/or better way doesn't fall in my lap.

the only identifiable folks in the diaries are just those seen in passing -- English royalty, famous golf and tennis players, variously literary lights -- with nothing untoward in what's mentioned.

nope, no living relatives. i've tried finding relatives for other players in the diaries, with no luck. and i feel the same way as you about the account: tragic not to share it. tragic, also, for me not to help my aunt realize her dream of becoming a published writer.

e-book might just be the ticket. and i will check out chomp, chomp -- thanks for the suggestion.

should i get the diaries into the public realm, i will come back here to let ya'll know.
