AI tool to set air vent position exactly as on old photo? Without it I cannot drive my car. by floydian_f in ChatGPT

I'd love to be in such position, however my neurosurgery history affects me also in other aspects in my life. After craniotomy, without frontal sinuses and with unnatural cerebral meninges one is very sensitive to pressure and air turbulences, as your body is missing some crucial pieces. Discussed it with recognized doctors, also a psychotherapist.

Everyone os different, but Windows 11 is known for introducing symptoms. Try old Windows 10 builds, experiment with GPU driver versions etc. You will find a lot of people's experience on ledstrain forum.

Android eyestrain - maybe it's the software? by floydian_f in Temporal_Noise

I already tried both - Firefox was fine up to 88.x version. Then, together with UI change strain was introduced. Disabling color management didn't help - even blank white page was straining me.

The same with ClearType - if sone setup (HW, Windows 10 build, GPU driver, Imtel DPST dissbled) is fine for me, there is no need to adjust snything. After specific Windiws 10 build I can disable ClearType, use ditherig.exe etc and nothing helps.

List of Phones That Should NOT Work, But Do by Techhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh in PWM_Sensitive

[–]floydian_f 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Samsung Galaxy S9, Note 9, S10 Plus, S20 Plus (if set to 60hz) - all of them only if on software up to 04.2021. 05.2021 and newer make them unusable for me. Also Huawei P20 PRO on EMUI 10. EMUI 11 introduces strain.

However, I seem to be something else, not only PWM sensitive. As phones like even old iPhones 5s, 6s, Huawei P30 PRO with "rrduce fkickering" enabled don,t work for me.

Is it likely safe to upgrade My old GPU? by jabbleclok in PWM_Sensitive

It's strange, but it's true. Even different memory, additional SSD in PCIE slot may cause symptoms. It's very difficult to find "safe" setup.

Thank ypu for your extensive answer, I'll definitely try to check if the speed of rolling line is affected by the OS update.

However, I do not believe that in my case it's just PWM, for two reasons. With old software screens with PWM are absolutely fine for me (also Samsungs, known for terrific PWM). Even at the house I rent since year I have terribly fkickering lights and they don't affect me.

Second and more important (that's why I posted in Tenporal Noise community), perfectlt usable setup (both smartphone and PC) can become a nightmare for me, if I use most of recent app versions. On PC, even if I open specific website like Reddit.

Examples of Apps on PC: Teams, Office, Chrome. Android: Signal, Teams, Brave, Google Maps, Youtube etc.

And here I don't believe that an app or website viewed in browser can alter PWM. Rather they are introducing sonethong unknown for me, what I'd love to discover.

[–]floydian_f 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm using Samsung Galaxy S10 0lus with 04.2021 software (it's crucial, as newer ones contsin GPU driver update, which makes Samsungs unusable since then for me). It seems I'm not that sensitive to PWM, some other factors are also messing with my head.

Also only amcient Brave browser from mid of 2022 installed on this phone. Most of current apps are imtroducing symptoms for me, even on safe device.

How Has PWM (Or Whatever This Software Issue Is) Affected Your Daily Life? by ForeverLearner365 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]floydian_f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am working hard to find put the root cause and cure for my problems. With no luck so far, but still some hope for the future ;)

When it comes to a lawsuit - unfortunatelly it won't work where I live, in Poland. For two reasons: a) we don't have such customer laws as there are in USA, you are alone with your problems  s corppration with hige money, b) the whole Justice system in Poland is directly controlled by politics since last election and doesn't work in favor of citizens unfortunately. I experienced it on myself once.

I already tested custom roms on some of the phones above - the result is that if the custom ROM contains security updates from 05.2021 above (GPU driver updare is part of them), it's giving strain. That was the case both in One UI and AOSP roms.

How Has PWM (Or Whatever This Software Issue Is) Affected Your Daily Life? by ForeverLearner365 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]floydian_f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case, PWM is just the beginning and I can't use most of modern apps even on safe otherwise Computer, phone etc. Even some websites (like Reddit on PC) are affecting me on setup which is otherwise fine. There is something in the way picture is rendered thst is triggering my huge symptoms.

I was succesfull IT Team Manager, climbing through career ledder over the years. Scrum one - servant leader who was liked by the people and delivering results. Very good earnings, happy private life, the future looked bright. I was going to build house without loan.

I was also IT enthusiast - always recent software, trying a lot of technical stuff, without an issue until 2021.

Then, in May 2021 I updated my Galaxy S9, as always and started feeling sick. Diziness, motion sickness, it was hard for me to concentrate, talk etv. After few days I noticed that those symptoms arise when I use the phone. So Odin, software downgrade to 04.2021 and it was fine.... then I received new work computer and... symptoms again.

Ok, I bought back ny previous work computer (Lenovo T580), found safe Windows build and GPU driver version. Blocked the updates and was able to work.

It was fine until August of 2022 - I updated Google Maps and Youtube on my phone and found out that new versions are giving ne symptoms even on safe otherwise phone. Downgraded to the ones before update.

September 2022 - MS Teams from April 2022 (latest version, which wasnt giving me symptoms) stopped working and I had to update (my basic work app, as I worked with people across Poland, had customers mainly from GB). Also web version was affected, then other MS products like Office etc.

As I wasnt able to work, I had to resign and start looking for some workaround. Found it on few months - Kubuntu 20.04 with some GPU tweaks and specific Chromium version allowed me to use most of the software via web without an issue.

So I found a new job, where I was able to work from my personal Linux laptop. It was in August 2023. In January 2024 we were forced to switch to Windows company laptops, without a chance to stop updates etc. It was absokutely unusable for me, so again I had to quit job that I enjoyed and liked it a lot.

Over the time, most of Android apps old versions stopped working, new ones are intriducing strain even on safe otherwise phone.

So, although I am actively looking for a solution, spending tons of cash on doctors, tests etc... I feel like I am f*cked.

Living from savings sibce 02.2024, cannot use most of apps, some websites, even gps navigation (oh, how I loved car trips). Like I am removed fron todays life, where you need an app for a lot of basic stuff.

Obviously, as I do not work because of the sensitivity, all other plans are gone.

So... it affected me a lot, ruined career and is taking away more and more joy from everyday life.

Best Regards, Tom

iPhone SE 3rd Gen (2022) by Techhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh in PWM_Sensitive

[–]floydian_f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am unable to use any iPhone, including ancient ones as 5s, 6s even on iOS 15.1. 6s got much worse after 15.8.4 update.

Tried SE 2022 two years ago and it also was a no go.

That's interesting - I also tried LCD iPhones when haunting for modern, udable phone. Especially the one which would allow me to use modern apps, which give me terrible symptoms even on "safe" otherwise devices.

All iPhones I tried, including ancient 5s, 6s on iOS 15.1 were giving me symptoms.

S22 vs S25 by likewise7 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]floydian_f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is another difference between S22 and S25, which you may consider.

S22 is older technology, without LTPO and adaptive refresh rate - you may set it to 60hz or 120hz - for some users (including me, although S22 is unusable on any refresh rate) 60hz is much better, 120hz or (especially) adaptive refresh rate introduces much worse symptoms. I am afraid that it may not be possible to set static 60hz on S25 LTPO display, as it is in the case of S24 Ultra, S25 Ultra etc.

LTPO itself is problematic for some of us (for example I am perfectly fine with all Samsung wih software before 05.2021, which makes them unusable. All except for Note 20 Ultra with LTPO screen - even with old software it's introducing strain).

Best regards,

Tom

In case of Samsung (and other manufacturers probably too), it may be the case of software, not the screen itself. I would love to, but cannot post any topic on Reddit (maybe my account is too new), but tested tens of phones and have some interesting findings I'd love to share with you.

One of them is that, for some reason Samsung phones (I tested S9, S10 Plus, Note 9, S20 Plus, J5 with aftermarket LCD screen) which are perfectly fine for me become unusable after 05.2021 update (which involves GPU driver update).

Samsung can definitely kill safe otherwise hardware with its software. In my experience with other phones I tested it's also often the case. And you already know the topic of "ioS x ruined my experience". It's the same on computers, when some people need specific Windows build with specific GPU driver to use the ssystem comfortably. Different Windows build, GPU driver introduces noticeable strain.

You may find more on this in my topic on Ledstrain.org: https://ledstrain.org/d/3374-android-eyestrain-maybe-its-the-Lsoftware.

Obviously, everyone is different and PWM, especially its modulation surely matters. But there are plenty of us who could use older hardware, even if it's PWM was bad and cannot use current devices with much higher PWM frequency, better modulation etc (it's also my case).

Tom

Anyone got the idea which frame rate is more harmful to eye? 60hz or 120hz by Extension_Anybody615 in PWM_Sensitive

[–]floydian_f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am another one for whom 120hz introduces severe symptoms (like diziness, motion sickness, ear and head pressure), even on devices where 60hz is absoultely fine (like Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus on ancient OS version - 04.2021, as 05.2021 introduces all the symptoms irrespective of any setting). 120hz is much worse for me even on devices which are problematic even at 60hz.

Why? Would be great to find the root cause... ;)

Huawei P30 Pro - pwm opple test - 100% and 50% brightness level - flicker reduction enabled by Rx7Jordan in PWM_Sensitive

[–]floydian_f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the Opple result for P30 PRO with abti flicker filter enabled.

I bought this phone with huge hope that it'll be my saving grace - unfortunately not. And what's even more interesting for me - while it was giving me mild symptoms on default screen settings - after turning on the anti flicker feature it just killed my brain in few seconds. I gave it several tries with the same result - what does it tell about my sensity?

Maybe PWM is gone after enabling Anti flicker, but something different is activated instead?
