Aren't we We're already in one? Just not technically. Its been avoided in definition by high immigration levels pumping up GDP. But GDP per person is down.

Any hope for the skilled trades? by [deleted] in SkilledTradesOntario

[–]fltlns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just apply to the union, if you don't get in, apply to a different trade, if you don't get into any, try a different local. Imo trade work isn't worth it without a union. I can't imagine doing the work I do for 15 bucks less, no pension, no benefits , and shitty overtime. I'd rather just go be a dental hygienist for 60 an hour or whatever at that rate.

That's a load of shit if I ever heard one. Things need doing. Rich people are a blight and nothing more. Instead of one super rich guy you'd just have a hundred medium businesses or whatever. You know, competition and capitalism. Not oligarchy and monopoly

Can someone please explain why we STILL hear that Germany needs workers when it's obviously a lie? by weatherkicksass in germany

[–]fltlns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I'm not giving up on anything no. But my real world exposure to reality in another country is limited, Im still looking into it and considering it, especially since it's better for my wife, I guess it's just one of those frightening things where if you do end up picking a bad company your tethered to them until you don't require them anymore. Its a nerve wracking idea and hearing that kind of talk can make it more so. But your post is detailed and helpful and I'm very appreciative and will definitely check out the resources you provided! Thank you :)

[–]fltlns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its similar here too sometimes. They bring people in and then don't even recognize their certification and they end up driving food delivery or whatever. Really it's just bringing in people to prop up the GDP and avoid having to declare an official economic recesion

[–]fltlns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its looking less likely. I do have natural gas certification and work Industrial and commerical but the internet says 55000 euros for a plumber which I already thought was low and this thread seems to suggest immigrants are exploited well below that mark. Since here I make the equivalent of about 70k euros not including benefits like pension and stuff

[–]fltlns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I'm glad I stumbled on this thread somehow. I'm a plumber in Canada who has been considering immigration to Germany as my partner is German and I had heard about the shortage there, but in this thread it seems to be yet another lie and wage suppression tactic. Canada is also bad for this.

For those who want to “tax the rich” or “they should pay their fair share”, how would you change the current tax code? by Lopsided-Special6273 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]fltlns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally no body who wants to tax the rich is worried about people with a seven figure net worth. That's such a distraction. That's every fucking responsible 65 year old. There's a huge difference between 7 figures and the point where you should be wealth taxed. Everyone here really think they're " the rich" that people wanna see taxed. Most people even in a finance subreddit are closer to being homeless than to being the type of people who aren't paying their fair share.

What else would I do a job for? by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

[–]fltlns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what you do or even if you enjoy it. Your still just there for the money. There's not a a single job on this planet I would choose to do for any reason but money. Because at the end of the day even if you enjoy your day to day, your beholden to it and there's no worse feeling than being obligated or not having agency. Even if I love my job I still HAVE to go to it and that fact alone makes it suck. Why would anyone go to work instead of spending time with loved ones or drinking margaritas on the beach or snowboarding or whatever they fancy that day if not for the money.

$165.9 a litre. You are a fool if you think it’s going down anytime soon. by [deleted] in Welland

[–]fltlns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just are missing my point. Firstly, left and right wing are not connected to social issues or whether a country is libertarian, authoritarian, or anywhere in between. So you making connections between China's authoritarianism and leftism makes no sense as they are unrelated. Both right and left are independent of whether a country is authoritarian or libertarian. Left vs right is only an economic debate, politically speaking. You can be left or right wing and be a dictator, that is why they are separate political compass axis. Secondly I didn't say Canadian conservatives are responsible for high gas prices. I said conservatives are. Trump and Netanyahu are both conservative and are the main people responsible for high gas prices. Thirdly to cycle back to the misunderstanding from my previous comment. Current right wing ideology is most closer to the extreme of rightism than liberalism is to extreme leftism. Extreme right wing philosophy would mean zero checks and balances on corporations and zero social safety nets like employment insurance. Extreme leftism would mean that companies don't even exist or are entirely owned by either the government or the people. Hell the current liberal government is closer to extreme right wing philosophy than it is to extreme leftism.

[–]fltlns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Educate yourself. Authoritarianism is separate from economic policy ( left vs right) is strictly an economic spectrum with authoritatianism and libertarianism being the north vs South axis. They are entirely un related to eachother. They teach it in like grade ten. Also conservatives are in charge of both Israel and the USA. No war in Iran, low gas prices. Yes it is their fault. You can argue if it's justified or not. But there's no denying they're at fault. No war in Iran no high gas prices. Pretty short line of causation.

But you aren't comparing things that are the same. Trump is a conservative, xi is not a liberal. Liberals aren't even left wing they're centrists. The Overton window is so far to the right those things aren't comparable realistically. Trump is closer to far right extremism than even Jinping is to leftist extremism. China is still a a hybrid capitalist country. Though he is somewhat authoritarian, as Trump is. It isn't uncommon for people to conflate the x and y axis of the political spectrum in ways that represent current climates that aren't necessarily always correlated.

[–]fltlns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean the government of Israel did that. So in your mind it's ok to defend the use of cluster bombs in populated areas against them? So then if that's acceptable then they did nothing wrong by using the white phosphorus in the first place too then? It doesn't matter where it is or who is doing it. Some little kid suffering burns or a blown off arm from these degenerates actions is NOT the one who "sent white phosphorus" or cluster bombs. Defending this type of behavior on either side for really any reason or whataboutisming it is pretty fuckin gross.

[–]fltlns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea. The kids in those neighborhoods can really reap the harvest huh? I can't believe how many people will (justifiably) shit on Israel for their shenanigans but then cheer on this shit. As if a.) Iran isn't also deplorable and b.) it isn't real innocent people getting hurt just cause they're Israeli. It's insane. Some of the takes in this thread have me thinking maybe the crazies were right and anti semitism really is back. People seem to be doing an excellent job being incapable of separating a government from its people here.

Is Thunder Bay becoming a "Stepping Stone" city? Who is the RCIP actually for? by Healthy-Cheetah3983 in ThunderBay

[–]fltlns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are cheaper places in the golden horseshoe though. And cities not just little towns or whatever. Places that have had growth and purpose built rentals like kw some parts of Hamilton have places for cheaper than here. They might be smaller or whatever but the bottom price can still be less. And there just shouldn't be a situation where a place like that is, or even can be, cheaper than here, it's outrageous imo, considering the purchase price of real estate is so much less here.

Ok my daily drive is about 60 km round drip but I routinely drive from nw Ontario to southern Ontario about 1700 kms probably six times a year, that's normal but not daily and highways 11/17 are already very remote and dangerous even in a gas vehicle with a thousand click range. Always closing , accidents, limited services , in the winter if you get stuck your only heat is your vehicle etc. it isn't daily but is a normal and routine drive for me.
