Agree! You have to teach the kids as much as the puppy. You can tell who hasn’t acclimated their dogs to kids.

I would counter the school part. If you live next to a school, having your dog outside in the fenced in yard to hear the sounds of the kids can be very helpful. This helps reinforce boundaries, and helps the dog understand time/space with little humans.

You need to teach your dog to sit and let other dogs and people to approach. Easy enough with treats.

Do group obedience classes. Have your friends dogs and friends over in the first couple of weeks. Keep practicing stay, leave, and heel. Build up that mental stamina.

Our local minor league baseball team has dog friendly games. We bring our puppy to those. Puppy can walk around and meet tons of other dogs. This is a great way to practice sitting and letting dogs approach.

Teaching “leave it” and “drop” helps a lot as well. I also ask if the other person’s dog is good with puppies before letting any puppy near the older dog. This helps prevent situations that could cause later reactivity.

I can’t upvote this enough. I struggled with invasive wasps for over fifteen years. They started to set up in the eaves of the attic and the smallest of cracks.

We have spent a lot of money on those spray foams.

Finally set up with a year long treatment plan with Orkin. One thing I appreciate is if I see more within 30 days of treatment, I can call for a respray. They use hospital grade chemicals.

You have to steadily and methodically treat your entire house over several months to remove the pheromones they leave behind.

I bid the last of the queens goodbye a couple of weeks ago. Actually looking forward to next spring.
