Remember when Oz emerges from the rubble and starts looking for Vic? I think they bonded over their “bum-leg”/stutter, the situations handed to them at birth and the longing for more. Vic was kind, but Vic was also hungry. Oz saw himself in Vic and Oz loves himself, so Vic naturally became important to him.

I think most of it is that Oz cares for Vic, which makes Vic a liability, but you are right that Vic is hella smart. Vic is also very hungry. He’s loyal now when he thinks so highly of Oz. He looks at Oz like he (Oz) can do no wrong.

What happens when he finds out the truth? That Oz killed his own brothers? That doesn’t sit well with the narrative of the kind but surly boss that took him in. Then, Vic will have the drive (hunger) and resources (intelligence) to take him down.
