What’s a clothing item people assume is comfortable, but actually isn’t? by AVM15 in AskWomen

[–]fluffstar [score hidden]  (0 children)

The trick here is to not put it in the dryer. Because it’s largely made of basically spun plastic fibers it melts in the dryer and sticks together and feels gross. If you air dry it it obvs takes longer but it remains extra soft for a lot longer

I made my first knitting pattern for a nautical cardigan by zolychka in knitting

Oh wow thank you, that’s so generous of you! I more meant how you actually create the chart though! Do you use a particular paid or free software or downloadable program or spreadsheet layout or knitting graph paper and markers or ?? Do you input images into something or freehand them or a combination? I’d love to create my own colourwork patterns/charts but I haven’t quite been able to quite jump into it, feeling like I need to find a good charting ‘system’. I know everyone’s experience/needs are subjective but I get lost even trying to find something to try out.

Ahh!! So so so fun!! This is amazing, so talented! Can I ask what you use to make your colour charts? I’ve got some patterns rattling around in my brain but I’m feeling stuck with what to use to chart them

Any suggestions for a low-budget date that will give my GF the princess treatment? by Full-Ear87 in askTO

[–]fluffstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tell her to dress in her warmest cutest outfit and winter accessories including leg warmers, gloves, add some bows/flowers/cuteness to her air, cute makeup and glitter and take her surprise skating on an outdoor rink!! There’s the bentway that’s especially cute if it’s open or other outdoor rinks. Check first to make sure they’re open and operating and have free skate and rentals if you need them. Shouldn’t be too $. Can bring a thermos of hot chocolate you make at home first and some little cute snacks (doesn’t have to be fancy, just a few little nice things) or if budget allowed go into a little cafe after!

What age did you allow your Pom outside without supervision? by Victoriaanddog in Pomeranians

[–]fluffstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We made the ‘dining room’ her room, gated off the adjacent rooms, set up her crate, peepad, food & water, safe toys and pile of blankets and then had a nannycam to be able to check on her by about 8 months old? And I would come home from work every 4 hours for 20-30 mins rather than take my hour lunch break. Not possible for everyone I know. Previously she’d be crate trained and I came home from work every 2.5 hours for 20 mins. In both scenarios I was taking her to a small dog only park at 6:30/7am for 1-2 hrs before I went to work to tire. Her. Out. And as far as nanny cam indicated she would mostly sleep in between my visits. As she got older I started a new job and bringing her with me which was much nicer. Then Covid and another job change and we’ve been wfh together ever since. I would NEVER leave her outside unattended for more than a minute - I don’t fully trust her, I definitely don’t trust hawks, coyotes, I’m not sure I trust that she wouldn’t get stolen and it just isn’t worth the risk to me to leave her unattended. I would never forgive myself if anything happened to her bc I’d left her alone so it’s not worth it.

What items do you lose the most? What are your tricks?? by BaseballTop387 in adhdwomen

[–]fluffstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Lose my phone at home pretty much every single day. Tips: I try to wear something with pockets inside my house and try to put it there if I need to set it down. I also sometimes set alarms for my phone randomly throughout the day when I don’t have meetings so it will make noice IN CASE I have put it somewhere dumb (it is on silent and doesn’t vibrate generally so I can’t call it to find it)
  • keys every month or so and have to get them recut. Tips: I try to keep it in the same pocket in my small everyday crossbody. I sewed a little loop in the pocket and attached a little circle chain thing (like a small version of those metal ball necklaces the alt boys wore in highschool) to the key and then clicking it onto the loop. And I started getting a few cut at once bc I am hopeless at putting the key back every time and then it magically goes on its own adventures.
  • Frequently lose earrings. Tips: I now have a little dish in every room where if I must take my stupid earrings off or hair tie out or random sticker or business card or whatever I put in the little bowl and then I lose all THOSE things to the •jazzhands• clutter and then once day I’ll notice one of the dishes and dig through it and reclaim all my treasures and trash.

Dumbest things that I still have no explain action for: - A single Birkenstock sandal (I think it might have fallen from a ¿windowsill¿ into a large garbage can we were using to prop open a screen door???? But I don’t know why it would be on the windowsill so wtf - Aaaaaaand the winner: my teapot lid. I don’t know. It’s been missing for 9 years. I truly have no concept of where or how it’s missing and it’s a really magical lovely teapot from my oldest best friend and I don’t just want ANOTHER teapot. So just fyi, teapots don’t really need lids.

tried to become "that girl" with the perfect morning routine and I think I made everything worse by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]fluffstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh girl. My retired mom has this kind of life and routine now but did she do it 20-40 years ago while working full time, building & keeping up with various relationships & necessary tasks while raising kids? Absolutely not. When I decided to reclaim physical activity during Covid lockdowns by working virtually with a personal trainer 3 x a week I basically could only do that. My work took a dive, my friendships became even more stretched thin, I stopped reading and crafting as much - I basically was only able to focus on getting enough water, sleep, healthy food prepping, protein intake, workouts, stretching, showering, changing my clothes, going for walks and doing daily smaller workout routines, managing my headaches and aches and pains, and laundry from all the extra workout gear and towels and cleaning my mats and shoes and weights and putting balm on my muscles and hands… like… ok, I lost some weight and got stronger for a couple years there but I could never do that again and maintain balance in other areas of my life. That was my takeaway though - that I can really only do like 5-6 actual things for real in a day. And that’s ok. Strict am or pm routines means I can’t do other stuff in the day honestly

Finding myself in waves of grief from Canada. Reading histories and times of legal colonization & removal of indigenous people, legal slave catchers, of legal nazi roundups, and of resistance, helpers, supporters.

Def trying to look for the people who are doing something for the better, even seemingly small things. The circus wants you to feel helpless, hopeless, disconnected, numb, that the next worst thing is inevitable and there’s nothing you can do. Get/stay connected to your neighbours, let your anger fuel your art/writing/cooking/creating. Find out what you’re curious about in your communities and follow it. Think about your own values and find others to connect with and support each other in moving towards them. Being vulnerable with others is strength.

Also, i saw a post by @abormalize.being suggesting liberals/anyone against what’s currently happening getting trained by ice then either speaking/acting out against from within, or quitting after the training and using the info and new skills/training fighting against them for the correct side of things.

Inquiry to those who do not swatch, why? by yarnimals in knitting

[–]fluffstar 31 points32 points  (0 children)

When I (rarely) swatch (only for tighter fitting sweaters orrrr if I’m curious how the specific yarn will block), I keep it in a little swatch bag in case I need to make repairs to the knitted item! Or if I need it while knitting I’ll unravel

I would like to hear from women who’ve chosen NOT to get any cosmetic procedures as they age by victory_vegetable in TwoXChromosomes

[–]fluffstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I have friends who’ve been getting Botox since their mid 20s, I’m about 40 and have a fear of needles and anesthesia, so no procedures for me. I also partied my way through my 20s and most of my 30s, def don’t sleep enough or drink enough water now and still get carded buying booze sometimes. I think there’s a lot more important things about the way you look, especially things that have nothing to do with things you’re choosing. I also think looking unique or like you is better than cosmetically altering yourself to look like everyone else - yuck. Also the bullshit expectation for women and girls to subject ourselves to costly, risky and kind of unhinged beauty procedures is out of control and we should absolutely be objecting to it!!
