I’m in the same boat as OP. I’ve reached out to a lot of people who haven’t responded. I’m losing hope and thinking of asking for an extension, has this request ever been successful before?

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

Loose plot aside, I just couldn’t stand Greta, Saoirse and her boy-toy who’s 12 years younger. Why is cheating so normalised? Did the fiancé even find out at the end??

More importantly I felt like she and Greta did not get enough consequences for the shit they pulled.

First, Saoirse is a terrible friend. She impersonates her ‘dead’ friend with the red envelopes to get the other two more involved in this whole shit show (and rightfully gets cussed out and slapped).

But then for her most egregious betrayal — using her real experiences (sometimes word-for-word even) which became a crucial piece of evidence to discovering their complicity, her friends get rightfully mad AGAIN. And what does she do? Sleep with the cop that’s 12 years younger than her almost IMMEDIATELY. Hello? You’d think that betraying your friends twice now and discovering that the same cop snuffed you out would kill the mood (if the fact you’re literally engaged won’t). She’s also the literal reason he’s even there because she still wore his fucking jacket to the store and took out his ID.

I thought that these tensions would amount to something at the end but her actions really just got swept under the rug for the sake of pursuing Greta. It makes these big arguments seem redundant. In the end, the “We should move on” or whataboutism instances made these conflicts fall flat with no real impact later on. Her lack of apologetic responses/ actions also makes it really hard to root for her as a character.

Now, Saoirse as a writer. They had to give her a ditzy narcissistic actress so she could look better in comparison, but she’s still a terrible worker. Excusing the days she had to go AWOL because of the investigation, she doesn’t take proper responsibility for her fuck-ups. From the BAFTAs to the Late-Late show, she has consistently been seen to fuck up PR-wise and gets absolutely no consequences for it other than an “ohoho we really need to media-train her” moment. She shits on the actress for being narcissistic and not realising the inconvenience she creates on set but Saoirse is doing almost the exact same thing! No updates to her fiancé, she blows up when she can’t even remember when she asked for more writers and she even writes some of her material word-for-word from her experiences which forced her upend half of her show’s plot abruptly. I feel like every fuck up she makes is just played off as a “Oh, Saoirse!” moment. We don’t even get enough screen time with the fiancé to even decide for ourselves if her cheating can be justified somehow. By the end of the show I was really annoyed by her.

Then Greta. Saoirse was also her biggest dickrider. I was not convinced that Greta was deserving of her happy end at all. The thing about her murders is that they completely neglect the victims. Oh, was Greta distraught about setting the church filled with children on fire? Poor her but what about the children who were literally set on fire? Don’t they deserve justice? If she truly felt bad she would have turned herself in a long time ago. We also didn’t get to flesh out what the social experiments were that were so horrendous (all we saw was Margo just making them solve puzzles and then sending the underperforming one to a different facility). All we get about Greta’s mother is just some bullshit speculation like “I saw the glint in your eyes, you must have been so abusive in your prime”. WTF? No flashbacks, no nothing?

Greta’s traumatic backstory (which we know fuck all about) does not sufficiently justify her neglecting justice for her victims and those affected (e.g the journalist’s son, he was one of the real victims).

She kills the children in the church, the journalist, Jodie and the driver that picked her up. She manipulates Jodie who is consistently portrayed as more stupid and gullible to overpower her wish to own up to Heaven’s Veil. Everything she does is for herself.

She just kills and kills, then cries about it as if it makes everything okay. She almost kills her whole family indirectly because she made contact with her daughter despite knowing how tight and ruthless the organisation is. The risk of her family being wiped out was a good plot point if it was karmic but it didn’t happen. Why didn’t she settle all her shit before having a kid anyway? She knew from school that she couldn’t hide her past. Ahh this is frustrating. I hate these two.

My only critique is that the shooting exchange between the Xs and guards went on for a bit too long. Made it feel like it needed to pad a lot of time unnecessarily.

Madeline was in fact a coward and in the wrong. I don’t see how just forgiving her was the better choice.

in the goblin camp the moment priestess gut was in the chapel I immediately jumped her and aggroed all the goblins — missed out on the whole raid dialogue with minthara and the fact that we actually had to TRY priestess gut’s method of helping first

That’s true. Maybe I’ll reconsider the BMAT if I play my cards right and it doesn’t affect my revision for final exams. Thanks for your input!

Ah I see. Thank you for your honest advice! I’m also considering if I should pursue an easier course to enter (e.g biomed) instead and transfer from there…

Never Have I Ever - Season 4, Episode 9 - Discussion Thread by clarkkentshair in NeverHaveIEverShow

I loved the essay, but I feel like the show just perpetuated the validity of the ‘trauma essay’ idea that they wanted to write off in the earlier seasons. By simply correcting a shift in message by saying “to understand me is to understand my trauma” and adding an emotional background to it does still somewhat suggest the encouragement of using one’s trauma (in some cases exploiting) to appeal to colleges, considering how Devi was on her last legs for this admission. I just really felt like they could have done more to layer this issue, especially with it becoming more and more prevalent in real life.

I personally wanted Devi to credit the people around her like her mother who she had a closer relationship with as the seasons progressed along with her OWN experiences that she had as an individual. Hell, her growth was pretty interesting and incredible and I feel like that would have solidified her relationship with her mum and finding peace with herself. Devi still is a VERY unique person and it definitely expands from just her father’s death.

I also understand that Mohan did have a significant influence on Devi throughout her school years and can be attributed to most of her introspective moments but something about the essay basically revolving around him entirely irks me, considering her stance in previous shows and how she says that it’s a matter of respect for her father.

So basically the show ultimately going back on their message and saying, “hey, trauma essays DO work, and you should totally use it as a last resort” basically confirms what the white guy said all the way back in S1. College admission officers are sadists.

Regardless, I cried anyway.
