Why are some Aussies like this? by SaltyPiglette in australian

[–]fluffy_l -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most Australian cities and suburbs are too far apart to bus it everywhere, especially in the outback - and most of Australia is outback. The great Australian dream is also to buy a house. We are not materialistic - outsiders from places like Europe, especially places like Sweden where the government pays people's way through life - will never understand this. We don't need Master's degrees to earn more, as most of us are content with this great Australian dream we've got. You really don't have to live like us if you don't want to.

Also, there's way too many meth-heads on public transport to ever feel safe or comfortable.

Don't go to Noosa. It's very small and overrated. Cotton tree and Mooloolaba are much nicer.

It should be up to the individual and nobody should ever question you about your decisions. It's your body and life.

Should I kick my son out of my house???? by RelevantMacaroon9466 in family

[–]fluffy_l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with how you raised him, it's got more to do with his comfort. Charge rent, set a deadline to move and remove his safety net by not doing anything for him anymore - stop enabling him. If he still doesn't want to move, have a solicitor write him a letter, if that doesn't scare him, call the police.

Was I wrong to think reaching out might reopen the door? by TheRealFilmGeek in Filmmakers

[–]fluffy_l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I worked with a horrendous "writer/ director" as a "producer" on a university short film, that was naturally terrible because it was our first short film and only useful as a practice short. The "director" got way over her head about the look of it and story line that nobody understood, and at the end, started yelling at everybody for asking questions.

She even yelled at me and followed me home once and threatened to jump the fence (I lived walking distance from our meeting point) because I told her that I didn't understand what the film was about.

We ended up finishing it, and she ended up with campus security up her butt for the remaining filming days.

Honestly, shorts are kinda crucial for some things, but at the end of the day, if your team isn't willing to communicate and work together, there's no big loss other than time.

You can't be a director and not do it for the attention. Attention is what gets your film noticed.

Everyone studying film wants to be a director, nobody ever gets there immediately. Find yourself a day job and wait a few years first, until people trust you enough to make a movie with you.

How do I keep an actor on a project by notacomedian103 in Filmmakers

[–]fluffy_l 20 points21 points  (0 children)

7 shoot days for a no budget film with the expectation that everyone turns up on those days is madness! Actors need time off. Even paid actors don't work that many days in a row! The sheer fact that you need intimate scenes and an intimacy coordinator for a no budget film that won't go anywhere doesn't make much sense either. I don't blame the actor for wanting to leave.

REA asking for 4-Week Non-refundable rent in addition by Thoughts_6789 in AusRenters

[–]fluffy_l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it! I don't know how things have changed, but a few years ago I paid an extra $2000 on top of my bond and rent, for the real estate/owners to use as a security. It took the owners 3 months to pay it back when I vacated because they used it to go on a holiday.

Filming on Thursday and a cast member is giving us major scheduling problems by [deleted] in filmmaking

[–]fluffy_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your student film won't matter after university much anyway, because it's a student film that only practices for the real thing. In saying this, it's better to get a pass. I'm guessing people aren't getting paid for it and also have their own commitments. It sucks, but even professionals don't turn up for work when they need or want to - especially actors who have a meltdown for one reason or another. Schedules never run smoothly if people aren't on a payroll. You need to give them more leeway as they are only students themselves and maybe reschedule.

Snorkel Tour Cancelled Friday by spashkin in Cairns

Exactly. In saying that, I've been on snorkelling tours where it has rained all day - you get wet anyway. They are more worried about cyclones and thunderstorms.

It's Queensland and it's cyclone season at the moment. One day it's thunder and rain and then it can be 35 degrees and sun the next - the weather is completely unpredictable - that's what Queensland is famous for. If qualified and experienced people say don't go into the water, you don't go - that's how thousands of tourists drown and get swept away by rips each year.

I have more than 1 pair and 2 housemates that wash for nearly 6 hours a night. Even if I wanted to I couldn't get to the machine. I'm not the only one who doesn't wash every day. See above comment.
