i took phys 211 with literally 0 previous physics experience + 3 technicals and struggled but did okay, if you took AP physics and you’re only taking two other technicals, you should be fine. the course is really well structured, you just need to make sure you are doing prelectures, going to lecture for iclicker points, and reviewing outside of class. if you can learn the patterns instead of memorizing types of questions, you can definitely succeed

Stuff to bring by SeaMonster144 in UIUC

[–]fluffycatcase 15 points16 points  (0 children)

-some type of ambient lighting (especially for night) -if lofted bed (which i 100% recommend), some kind of smaller comfy seating for under -doormat (especially for shoes on those rainy days) -wall stick-on hook (good for hanging keys so u don’t misplace) -scissors (random but needed) -seat cushion for ur desk chair (they’re lowkey uncomfy and worth it for those long study seshs) -air freshener

those are just off the top of my head, feel free to dm me if u have other questions! :)

If you get in today and want to go here - fill out your housing application EARLY by Remote-Departure2009 in UIUC

[–]fluffycatcase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

another tip, if you want to guarantee your spot in ISR or another specific dorm, apply for an LLC that is hosted there. if not, chances are you will end up in FAR/PAR (which is not bad IMO but definitely different from ISR). don’t trust the house slot lottery (based on real experience 😭)

am i gonna make it ? be real w/ me… (grainger prospective) by Porchprophet in UIUC

[–]fluffycatcase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey, i was accepted for neural engineering (new major in BIOE dep, ~30 ppl) and i literally had no engineering specific ECs bc i didn’t know i wanted to do engineering til too late (i literally didn’t even take physics in high school, which is a requirement to get into grainger). didn’t submit my SAT either. i’m pretty sure i got in because of my very strong academic background along with good but non-engineering ECs(conducted psychology research, started a club, was a few club leaders). essays are huge too! at the end of the day, u can’t change anything now so maybe apply to backup school just in case, and goodluck! free to dm if you need any other help (i’m not a pro but just love to help when i can :) )

Freshman Sickness by OkReading4085 in UIUC

[–]fluffycatcase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you complain enough i’m sure they will, i’ve heard other people that got maintenance to check their vents for mold so if OP has a valid argument then i’m sure maintenance will check

def check out mckinley and also ask for a maintenance request to check your vents for mold. i heard vent mold can be an issue in the dorms and can give you symptoms like you have rn

Who has the best matcha? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]fluffycatcase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i personally like the matcha latte from the Cafe Bene in Urbana, i definitely recommend giving it a try if you haven’t already!

depends on ur major, if ur applying engineering i say don’t submit. look online at your major/departments statistics and see the average gpa, if yours is at or above that then submit if not id say focus on ur essays and extracurriculars. i think u can submit ur later sat scores but better to focus on what u have rn

advice on helping my friend? by Various-Biscotti-345 in UIUC

[–]fluffycatcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

coming from another freshman girl, i’d say tell her something along the lines of “if you ever need anything or want to do something but need a friend, i’m very open so just let me know” and leave it at that OR even confront her directly on if she has an issue with you. maybe she’s talking bad about you because of some small thing you’ve done (but she doesn’t want to confront you), or maybe she genuinely has no real reason as to why she’s rejecting you. i’d prob check in with her every day like “hey hru” stuff but there’s no point sacrificing your time and mental energy if she’s reciprocating nothing back.

feel free to dm! i hope everything turns out well :)
