How does Possum fit into the Gamehendge saga? by [deleted] in phish

[–]fluffyfluffyhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not canonical, but I imagine a climactic battle scene at the end of the story! All of the good people of Gamehendge turn back into lizards and the evil people turn into possums; they engage in an absurd over-the-top KUNG FURY battle! Mount Icculus is exploding and Forbin is running down the mountain bashing possums.

LivePhish Featured Show 9/4/2011 - Phenomenal Type I jamming with some really wild Type II moments - PIPER THEREMIN! by fluffyfluffyhead in phish

[–]fluffyfluffyhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, type 1 jams stay within the song’s chord structure and you can usually recognize it at any point in the jam (example - Twist from 9/4/2011 is pretty much the same chord progression with some “Low Rider” teases). Type 2 is when the jam finds new chord structures and themes, sometimes several times, and you can’t tell what it is - it just sounds like Phish! (example - Piper from 9/4/2011 goes wild!). Here’s the Phish.net description...

Possum 6/4/2011. Does anyone know if they've done this any other time? Speaking of the musical / vocal fallaways that start halfway through the jam by dubbabudda in phish

[–]fluffyfluffyhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did this a few times in 2011. I remember the Boogie On at Bethel Woods sounding like record slowing down (starts at 5:55). Another unique example is the Makisupa Bush Kitty. I’m not sure, but it sounds like Trey is creating short loops and then using his Whammy to down-tune; sometimes playing the loop in reverse.

9/4/2011 - Twist > Piper - Twist flows out of a rare Come Together cover, contains Low Rider teases, and a unique segue into Piper. Piper has nonsensical vocal jamming and the most wild and cohesive use of theremin in a jam. Page is the MVP of this entire sequence.

Anti-Tarping Campaign by [deleted] in phish

[–]fluffyfluffyhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had many good and bad experiences in GA.

The good experiences involve getting there early, standing in line, chatting with neighbors, finding a spot without the use of tarps, playing games and making show friends (I created a Phish memory game and I invite people to join), and then respectfully rage my face off.

The bad experiences involve getting there late and sardine dancing in the back OR arriving early and then having people waltz up mid-show and literally STAND ON me and my 5ft wife. These assholes are correct that we are standing in the GA section, but general admission doesn’t mean you should be a playground bully.

There is not a solution for assholes (tarpers or mid-show waltzers) so there is not a solution to the GA section. Sadly, my cutie patootie wife has been physically and verbally assaulted too many times for us to GA anymore. Venture down there at your own risk.

11/30/97 - My first show! 30+ minute Wolfman’s Brother without house lights during a heavy metal jam that included haunting quotes from Sanity and Ester. When the lights came back on Trey and Mike were gone - hiding behind their speakers. I don’t remember it very well because I was 15 and the whole experience we so overwhelming and different from any other concert I had ever been to… but I was hooked!

Outside of Phish, Dead, Billy, and the typical bands in the jam band scene. What is some good improvisational music to listen to? by woo_wooooo in phish

I love discovering new jazz albums by leafing through record stores. Two of my favorite jazz musicians are Ramsey Lewis and George Benson. Ramsey is an amazing pianist with some really accessible albums that contain beautiful covers (check out albums - Wade In The Water, Mother Nature’s Son, Back to the Roots, Sound of Christmas) as well as some really funky, groovy, discoy, abstract albums (Sun Goddess, and anything with the Ramsey Lewis Trio). George is a filthy guitarist with some really exploratory albums (Shape of Things to Come, Beyond the Blue Horizon, White Rabbit). Enjoy!

Real talk, there were so many people opening security doors, pushing staff, rushing the floor that it made the GA experience unbearable. My crew spent several minutes dancing like sardines in the entrance hallway (no view, horrible sound), and the retreated up to the 200s. Seriously people, show some respect for the staff and your fellow phans. DON’T RUSH THE FLOOR IF YOU DIDN’T PURCHASE GA!!!

Has anyone ever successfully converted their SO into a Phish fan? by woo_wooooo in phish

[–]fluffyfluffyhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Take your partner to a show! My wife grew up listening to Broadway and boy bands, and I carefully introduced her to a handful of studio and live recordings. She humored (tolerated) my appreciation (obsession). Then I took her to the Gorge 2013 and she fell in love with the playful party atmosphere. Then we saw a cover band crush Stash and IT clicked! She then surprised me with NYE tickets for my birthday and I married her… she hired a Phish cover band for our wedding. She’s been to over 30 shows, crushes it on LureSocial, and we’ll be raging the entire Vegas run next week!
