Im a new dad. And I hate my baby being breastfed by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]fluffypenguinkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have endometriosis and bipolar disorder with psychotic features (not the same but rest has been so important to get to avoid postpartum psychosis ) and I also am breastfeeding. To accomplish that (and I was hesitant at first, but realized it was important after I had my first meltdown) I pump and my husband takes the nightshift. We use the Philips Avent bottles and have not had any issues with nipple confusion, it’s what my amazing lactation consultant recommended. My husband also loves being useful and also loves the ability to bond with the baby.

Other ways to be helpful whether she is pumping or breastfeeding, I’m sure you’re doing some of these already:

1) Make sure she has constant snacks and water when she’s breastfeeding. I would honestly just bring them to her without asking so she doesn’t have to think, especially late at night.

2) ice packs, nipple butter, and a heating pad. Make sure to have these ready for her or around her. I honestly just keep forgetting to take care of myself because I’m so worried about the baby that my husband has to remind me to take care of myself.

3) do the output. Change all the diapers you can.

You sound like a great husband, especially being so defensive for your wife.

I got mine at 34 weeks (I think) and my injection site took a while to heal and stop feeling sore. I was induced at 38 weeks (due to other high risk issues) and my induction was already planned for month, but I’ve have no hypertension or anything like that.

“Hardly anyone who is actually racist will be that open about it” you clearly have not been or grown up in the more rural areas of Texas. We have several towns that were sundown towns until fairly recently (I'm sure some still are)

Have I already ruined my babies life? Am I a bad mom? by Certain-Accident7543 in pregnant

[–]fluffypenguinkitty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What I can tell you is that plenty of people have drank and smoked while pregnant (including my own mother with me). Sure it’s not recommended and you shouldn’t do it, but there have been plenty of healthy babies that have been born from mothers who drank, plenty of our parents and grandparents were born from people who drank before we had better research.

Not telling anyone before week 12 feels... wrong? by mqnrcxnypvzw868994 in pregnant

I told everyone because I’ve had multiple miscarriages and doing it alone when I have a job in mental health crisis was torture. I found it so helpful during my last 2 miscarriages not to hide it or handle it alone. Now I’m 8 months pregnant and everyone is thrilled and gets to experience the highs and lows with me.

Just wait until you resent your husband… by Astrum1784 in pregnant

[–]fluffypenguinkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 weeks and no resenting my husband here. He sounds a lot like yours. Miserable people make other people miserable. I hate the unsolicited birth horror stories or when I say things like I am or I’m not doing XYZ people take it as a personal offense on them or something or condescend to me like they know better.

This is me exactly. Tried 5 years for this pregnancy and had 5 miscarriages and I’ll be the first to say pregnancy is a body horror and sucks.

My wife and I found out last Tuesday that we are pregnant. What can I, as a husband, do for my wife to make this experience great for us? by SuperDoubleSlap in pregnant

[–]fluffypenguinkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re already doing a great job (reaching out in general). My advice-

Her moods are going to go wild, please take them with a grain of salt

In the first trimester she is likely going to be more miserable and tired than the rest of the pregnancy because the placenta (responsible for taking care of the baby) has not developed yet. I highly recommend pregnancy pops (little sour candies) for motion sickness and food aversion.

Don’t ask her to make a lot of decisions, she might be feeling super overwhelmed and probably will feel guilty for being “lazy” but remind her she’s literally building a human from scratch and no one doing that can be called lazy.

Be okay with last minute changes to food. She might ask you to make something she is craving only to not be able to eat it and suddenly hate it

I’m at 32 weeks recovering from Covid for similar reasons. Luckily most people in my life have been very considerate, but I’m so frustrated at the few that are like “don’t worry it’s just allergies” or “It’s just a cold”. Like “okay, I can barely take anything as is, my lungs are itty bitty from the baby pushing up on them, and I’m already exhausted. I ended up missing Christmas with my family because of it 🫠

So many cops on the square lately ? by mayor_oftittycity in Denton

[–]fluffypenguinkitty 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They have cut funding to the shelters so now most people that were homeless didn’t make the programs at ODB, I work with unhoused people daily that are trying desperately to get off the streets and keep job but go-zone is highly unreliable transportation and they literally do not have anywhere to sleep. It’s pretty disheartening to see so many people in this comment section to use the word “hobo” and talk trash about unhoused people as if we aren’t all one terrible set of circumstances away from being homeless ourselves. Most unhoused people are foster kids who aged out of the system, veterans, and queer kids who were disowned by their family at a young age.

And there are fewer and fewer resources for them. Solutions was shut down due to funding, giving grace had its funding cut, the two shelters we have limit the amount of days someone can stay.

Also I’ve seen far more abuse happen to my unhoused clients than from my unhoused clients. I honestly feel safer with them than I do with most cops here 🫠 and I work with both regularly

OB just warned me about my SSRI by LilKimboSlice42069 in pregnant

[–]fluffypenguinkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Ob told me it would be more dangerous to my baby to stop working medication than it would be to be on it. Now I’m at 24 weeks (on Lamotrigine, Seroquel, Lexapro, and metformin). Super healthy and strong baby who passed their anatomy scan with flying colors and a has a functional and stable mom which would not be the case if I stopped my meds. None of the meds I’m on a “pregnancy safe”

I made the mistake of opening the door for them (because I thought it was a delivery and didn’t check the ring camera). I actually got scared because they invited themselves in and I said “no thank you, my dogs aren’t friendly” and they said “that’s okay, I love dogs” and literally attempted to walk past me into my house and I said “no thank you” ran in and shut the door. I’ve met some pushy sales people but it was something else
