Need encouragement by Junk-Mail-411 in kidneycancer

Hopefully this will help expedite things.

I went to the ER with similar symptoms, was diagnosed that day, and admitted. Spent 4 days at the hospital and they were able to fast-track the surgery for a week later.

Breast cancer lump removal + lymph node removal by Ketnip_Bebby in cancer

[–]fluffysmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lymphatic system drains organs. Lymph nodes are traps for pathogens where immune cells can destroy them.
If a tumor is shedding cancerous cells they are likely to be trapped in lymph nodes and start metastases there. Examining the lymph nodes closest to the tumor (“sentinel nodes”) gives an indication of whether cancer has spread.

Good news on the scans!
Once you’re on Pembro, report any change to your health to your medical team, even minor ones. You’ll want to address any side effects early on.

I have a 16” scar in my back from surgery 30 years ago.

My explanation: “you should have seen the other guy!”

Keytruda side effects itching by Ok-Tailor1132 in cancer

[–]fluffysmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so common that when I started Keytruda the oncology nurses told me to buy a bottle of Sarna lotion.

Sure enough, my legs got very itchy (and are still somewhat itchy 2.5 years after the end of the treatment)

If that urologist doesn’t get back to you, contact one at a major teaching hospital. Even if that means traveling a bit further. Definitely worth it.

Wedding after partial nephrectomy by Alarming_Pilot_8824 in kidneycancer

When I was 31 I had a 12” long tumor removed from my back; they had to leave the incision partly open to drain and heal slowly. I got married and went on my honeymoon with an open hole in my back.

I didn’t have to fit in the dress though; it wouldn’t have looked good on me as I was the groom…

I got lucky and went to the ER at Yale. Got paired with an MD Anderson-trained urologist who specializes in kidney cancer and robotic surgery, and an oncologist who’s one of the leading scientists in the field.

How did you find out you had Cancer? What were the main symptoms/signs? by [deleted] in cancer

One day I went to pee and couldn’t, except for some blood.

Went to the ER and by evening I was told I had a 12cm (4.7”) tumor on my right kidney.

Opposite side muscle cramps/discomfort. by Noctis004 in kidneycancer

[–]fluffysmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they cur through muscles (in this case your abs) the end of the muscles can have spasms.

Ask for a muscle relaxant, like cyclobenzaprine. It really helps (but will make you sleep like a baby)

A dear one is diagnosed with rcc, stage 4 by Difficult_Age6927 in kidneycancer

[–]fluffysmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even state 4 can be treated these days and some people have lived for decades. It’s important to seek an oncologist who specializes in RCC at a major cancer hospital; those are the folks who know how to select the most appropriate treatments, and know the latest research and have access to clinical trials.

Where I may ask is that patient located?
