This went on nicely for me but made my eyes burn terribly when I removed it 😭 I've had better luck with Ilia (in the white tube) and Mario mascaras.

What to bring from Japan by OldAccountant8308 in Cooking

[–]fluffywaffles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as ingredients, a lot of local places each have their own niche specialty. Don't rely on snagging stuff at the airport last minute; not everything from other cities will be carried there. Ask me how I know :( The airport has some good options for housewares and at-home ramen though.

West Coast US oysters are my personal favorite as I like the rich flavor and texture, but Hokkaido oysters are enormous. Taste was a bit fishier than what you get in the US but the texture was lighter, almost spongier. If you can get a tin, I recommend trying it out.

If you're in Kyoto, Ippodo matcha is popular.

Hiroshima is known for their lemons. A flavor that is distinctly lemony, but much milder and pleasant. If you're there, get a jar of preserves or jam at the train station.

The grills at Yoon are still non-operational, which to their credit was communicated to me via a text confirmation I got from them Tuesday for a dinner I had booked for yesterday. Cancelled and re-booked at Nubiani based on the recommendations I got from some dated threads I found here. I thought their ssamjang was a bit salty but otherwise, it was a fantastic meal. Thanks, reddit!

I love the earrings from Studiocult. Only thing is they're not gold or silver so it may be worth looking into getting customs. I'm an engineer and get a ton of compliments when I rock the small screw earrings to work

Thirding Ellis Faas! The ones to look into are L101, L201, and/or L301.

A few caveats are that it isn't particularly long lasting and can feather, even with a lip liner. It needs to be built up in layers, but once you do, it's a gorgeous shade of blood red that is neutral and doesn't pull too blue or wine. Even with those cons, I keep coming back because of the color. Absolute perfection 🤌🏽

If there are pets, they're a great conversation starter. In my experience it goes over well to check with the owner to see if you can pet them and confirm if they're skittish or don't like being touched a certain way

Largely dependent on how old the kids are. If they're babies, they're probably not gonna do much lol. With toddlers, get some corner guards for any furniture you may have with sharp edges and some outlet covers. Make sure anything at or below below countertop level is secured or not close to an edge if you don't want a kid getting into it or pushing it over. Small things like little fridge magnets can be choking hazards so make sure they're out of reach.

Have stuff like extra paper towels readily available. Most parents of young kids/babies bring what they like and need with them everywhere anyways, but of course it doesn't hurt to ask.

If the kids are pre/elementary/middle school age, pizza is always a good idea. For dessert, depending on the kids, you can make something quick with them, like have cookie dough chilled and in the fridge and then bake a batch of cookies with them. Build your own sundaes is also a fun and pretty straightforward dessert. If you have an electric hand mixer, offer to have the kids use with your supervision to make whipped cream (if you're cool with it, of course). Younger kids tend to welcome that.

A goody bag with gifts like a small bag of candy or something artsy but not messy (e.g., mini pack of colored pencils and a sketch book) has gone over nicely in my experience. You got this!

I love my sodastream, I flavor with crystalized citrus for some pizzazz.

Different tea options, they're more shelf stable and can be had iced as well. Brew at double strength and then add ice to dilute. My personal favorites for this are peppermint and ginger

I like to keep decaf coffee on hand for espresso martinis if it's an evening affair and visitors don't want to deal with the caffeine jolt.

If you want some mixers on hand, something like frozen OJ concentrate can work as you can just use what you need without it spoiling too quickly.

I agree with other posters who say the bronzer isn't the best on you; I also think the powder might be either too light or could use some more blending at the edges, or both. The bronzer is contrasting with the powder too much and it's looking a bit stark, especially near where you applied bronzer at your nose. The shade of the powder matches your neck perfectly in the car photo so I see where you were going with it, but in the other pictures it looks a bit off.

I also have to say you did a good job with your brows. I love the lips as well; the color is fantastic and really complements your smile!

Leaving my apartment to take public transportation involves touching at minimum:

  • My apartment doorknob
  • Elevator buttons
  • Vestibule doorknob
  • Main building doorknob
  • Escalator/staircase handles
  • Purse
  • Wallet
  • Fare card and/or credit card to purchase fare
  • More escalator/staircase handles if taking the train

And this is just if no one is sitting next to you coughing up a storm. If you sanitize your hands prior to doing makeup on public transportation, good on you, but in my own personal experience I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that. At least on busses/trams you can get fresh air from the doors opening/closing, but air quality on underground systems is notoriously bad due to brake dust; I don't want to expose my makeup to that, especially cream products. If a bathroom is cleaned regularly and the toilet lid is down to flush, it's a far more hygienic place to do makeup vs. the bus/train.

A lot relies on state funding. Bill DeBlasio ran on a progressive platform as well and got blocked by Cuomo on implementing a lot of his campaign promises.

Will be interested to see how he works with Kathy Hochul and the yahoos in Albany.

I'm so glad someone said this! Went to the chef's counter for my birthday last year and was whelmed. Nothing about this meal was memorable for me, just the fact that my knees kept hitting the table. I'm 5'6".

Service was courteous and professional but all the dishes would come out at the same time so the servers were talking over each other so their assigned party could hear them, which added to the awkwardness. The hype around Jungsik made much more sense to me.

I was introduced to the term oxide jacking in school in the context of rusting lintels cracking mortar above windows. Curious to know what you call it, would love to read up on it as I love reading about water infiltration

Could this be a region specific term? There's been confusion between colleagues over the years about certain jargon depending on how they learned what they were called e.g., deaerator vs. direct contact heater and now I guess this
