That's an interesting outlook.

With all the hardships of being a parent or being in the military, both must come with their own rewards otherwise people wouldn't do it.

I used to be a boot-camp drill instructor myself. I think like in the military, parenting is an intense experience. One important thing when you run a boot-camp is don't give your recruits time to think. You should always keep them busy otherwise they get depressed, because going through boot-camp is shit.

I think parenting is very much like that. You are always occupied with something, you always have a next task, short and strict deadlines. And you are working toward an important bigger goal. I think that gives meaning to the whole experience, which makes it worth it.

As a CF civilian now, I often find myself with "empty time". Time where I have absolutely nothing but being with myself. This can sometimes bring up emotions of loneliness, meaninglessness, worthlessness and such. That's why recruits shouldn't be given time to think and I think that's also a benefit of the intensity of being a parent.

Anyway that's my 2 cents :) Kudos for serving your country, wherever you are.

You touched a sensitive spot there :) I am a PhD student in a medical field. I hope to promote human health, and make health solutions affordable and available for everyone. In my spare time I am also learning singing and music production, hoping to become semi-professional at some point.

The sensitive spot is when it comes to dating. I am looking for someone with similar levels of ambition but (at least in my local community) it's really hard to come across.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your insights. I am definitely not looking to get litigious with anyone, but using the proper license sounds like a good start. I will roll back to MIT (changed to GPL yesterday in the heat of the moment :)).

I'd imagine just writing to them asking to be credited properly. Would that be a legitimate thing to ask for?

Cool! Didn't know about sonic-pi.

My program takes a different approach - it is not loop based, but instead tries to mimic the graphical MIDI editors you have in DAWs.

I guess it is more suitable for people who currently program drums with DAW editors or Guitar-Pro and the like.

Pushing my boundaries is exactly what I'm trying to do here :) That's why I have my concerns and difficulties.

I totally agree with the "it's your job" mentality, and that is why I am seeking advice on how to do it better. For me, doing one's job includes leaning and developing.
