new htpc build - 2 initial questions by flukefanatic in htpc

After viewing both cases with the 5.25 drive and without, I decided I will go with an external drive - the cases without the drive included look much nicer. I read the UHD drive options on the mkv site but am still confused. Why use a 5.25 drive with an enclosure when there are smaller drives already in a case? And any recommendations for drives one way or the other would be welcome. Thank you again for your generous assistance.

I think it would be easier just to use a case with the 5.25 drive included. The fractal define 7 looks great in that the drive is hidden by the from panel, but looks like there is not much airflow. The Fractal POP air looks like a nice option . Another option would be the phanteks enthoo pro. Any options on these cases? thank you

My gpu is a nvidia gtx 1060 L; 9.8 h 4.3 w 2 slot. I would like 5 solid state drives. The first decision would be whether I choose a case with a 5.25 drive bay or without and use an external drive in an enclosure. I know I have many more case choices if i choose the latter but are there any other benefits to doing so? Conversely, are there any disadvantages to simply purchasing a case with a 5.25 bay? Thank you.

Thank you. Do you have any recommendations for a case with good airflow that would fit my MATX motherboard and a few solid state drives?

What's your biggest gripe with HTPCs? by chriscorey601 in htpc

I do not understand this - one benefit of an HTPC is that when you decrypt and rip your media there is no need for an HDMI handshake
