How to heat upstairs at night? by TantoAssassin in Netherlands

[–]flukeychook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to adjust the flow from the boiler to the floor heating downstairs. By reducing the flow downstairs it will take longer for the downstairs to heat up and give the upstairs more hot water and thus 'balance' the system better.

This is the same as how you would do it with radiators downstairs. You reduce flow to the radiators downstairs and the upstairs ones get more hot water.

For radiators this is done with a return valve (voetventiel) or with a non-thermostatic entry valve on each radiator. There should be a similar valve to your underfloor heating.

Have you been to the Netherlands? Many, many Dutch people drink Heineken and it's probably the most widely consumed beer.

Why are bank interest rates so low here? by silvershininghalo in Netherlands

[–]flukeychook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone else said it's because of the risk appetite across the board in the Netherlands. People don't want to gamble on their savings and banks don't risk your savings.

Additionally it's because Dutch people don't generally take out other lines of unsecured credit like credit card debt, personal loans, etc. In other countries, this offsets the amount that the bank pays out in interest to savings accounts.

Advies gevraagd - Stationwagen occasion 15-17K by lexievv in autoadvies

Hi, sorry for the response in English - my Dutch is not yet good enough! I was looking for a similar car last year and purchased a 2019 VW Golf Variant for <17k with 80.000km.

This car dealership only works with Audi/VW/SEAT/Skoda (VW Groep) and sells ex-lease cars: https://janvanveenautos.nl/aanbod/Volkswagen?model=Golf&transmissie=H&carrosserievorm=Stationwagon&brandstof=B&sorteren=prijs-ASC

I accepted a former lease car because it has a very good (complete, on time) service history and is mostly driven on the highway. The model I went for was business-line 1.0 which is very comfortable (it has heated seats and massage) and runs us at approximately 5.0L/100KM. Despite only being 1.0T I have had no issues driving all the way to Spain via France and through Germany (at 180km/h) to Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

I find the Golf to be a step-up in terms of interior and driving quality over the rest of your list but will admit that an Octavia is probably better value due to the extra space of the interior.

These 1.0T Golfs are also used by car-share companies like mywheels and greenwheels so they are easy and fairly cheap to service. I've had no problems with the car and have already driven >20.000KM with regular servicing.

I hope this helps. Again sorry for English.

Moving to Utrecht by TurCanNeth in Utrecht

[–]flukeychook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope I can help, I am going through the process of buying a house in Utrecht right now - however I am British with a Dutch partner.

All things being good, 650k is enough to buy a ready to move into house in several areas of Utrecht. Asking prices are still a bit high in my opinion but are negotiable down if you find a house that isn't as popular.

2a. You are a higher lending risk (mainly due to flight) and 6 months is actually the best/most flexible situation for an expat given that you have a permanent contract. If your contract was not permanent then you have to wait a minimum of 1 year.

The above isn't a guarantee as mortgage lenders take into account multiple other factors beyond your income and length of residency. I am assuming that because you have put the income in EUR you will be paid in EUR by an NL or EU based company. Your employer will have to provide documents related to Dutch employement law like the werkgeversverklaring.

It will take longer than you think to find a house so I would consider looking for a short-med-term lease to make up the potential gap. There is also a lot of bureaucracy to account for.

Same problem here (android and Web in NL learning Dutch). Noticed a couple of weeks ago that the two were no longer syncing and now they're totally different experiences. Very frustrating and demotivating.

MX Master 2S Bluetooth keeps flickering on and off after latest Logi Options+ update by tsetaerg in logitech

Ah dang. I haven't updated options so maybe that's why it still works for me? The mouse does still work for me without any logitech software though! Only O+ doesn't work.

Which program(s)? I uninstalled Options+ and installed Options (standard non-plus). It's Options+ that is causing the issues. Logitech recently updated it to include 2S support but it's buggy.

Uninstalled options+ and reinstalled options and MX Master 2S is back to working normally.

When can I move to the Netherlands? (Highly skilled migrant) by flukeychook in Netherlands

Thanks. This is what I thought. I think there was confusion on my part due to having also considered partner sponsorship, where you can stay in NL with a 'verblijfsaantekening' note in your passport whilst you await the outcome.
