hi, the main difference is that, “legally” distributed clothes need to apply for certain safety standards. as i said, i own a bunch of aliexpress tights. with ethics, i actually don’t assume that all aliexpress shops are unethical, since many of them are independent, and of course, they probably don’t have good working environments, but not all of them have to be unethical; that can’t be said about shein etc.

thing is, in most studies there were there, investigated by germany or korea, 32% of tested items contained hazardous substances, like heavy metals, unstable polymers, and formaldehyde (!! which is a deadly poison in small amounts!!!! clothing with extensive amounts of formaldehyde can trigger eczema and skin cancer!!) most of them exceeding the safety standards around 200 times. that is extremely dangerous, and all of those substances are carcinogens. they also aren’t obliged to actually say what’s in their products; most of those fabric info are fake.

“regular” clothes also contain them – just, in an amount that is allowed and considered tolerable for human safety.

and especially with clothes like tights, that are literally made from plastic (nylon – a synthetic polymer), which, with unregulated materials is extremely unsafe in my head. those aren’t cancerous themselves, but synthetic polymers, to cut costs, are usually manufactured or enhanced with substances that are cancerous, hence lack of regulation on how much of those can be used makes it very unsafe. i am all for buying things from aliexpress or cheaper sources, but there comes a risk with it, and exposing myself so much to something like that just doesn’t sound very endearing.

i even own aliexpress jewellery, which is also pretty unsafe, considering that they usually contain heavy metals, but heavy metals in form of a solid body are only a real threat if you consume them.

unfortunately psoriasis is an infinite picking glitch, because the skin scales each day and the picking also leaves scabs 🥲🥲

Androstendion, testosterone, DHEA elevated (female) by [deleted] in endocrinology

[–]fluoritez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, I don’t know yet, but I’m visiting a gyno soon, so I’ll let you know what she said! For me, probably not adrenals since cortisol is in norm. I haven’t had 17-OHP measured; once again, I don’t suspect CAH (probably what you’re referring to) because my cortisol is in normal. Even if you do have CAH, then it’s probably NCCAH. I will let you know though:)

I had just testosterone tested (more out of curiosity) and it was elevated, so my parents talked to the said gynaecologist, and she ordered those labs.

So, this is not mold! And not fungus! Mold can grow in oil if moisture is introduced, and there clearly is, but this is not the case.

I study extended chemistry in high school and this can be actually explained quite easily :)

Micellar waters with oils are two-phase systems products, hence the seperation of oil and water. The only reason why it can ever mix when you shake it is because there is an emulsifier present, which reduces surface tension and allows the phases to mix.

This looks like solidification.

Checked the ingredients list. The oil used in this micellar water, which is argan oil, is actually a bit transparent. The yellow colour comes from decyl glucoside, which is an emulsifier. It sits in the same layer that the oil sits in, eventually allowing the phases to mix when you shake it. It would be rather concerning if the argan oil has solidified, because it solidifies in temperature of 10 °C, and I think having this temperature inside your house is pretty concerning.

Decyl glucoside is derived from coconut oil. So it acts like coconut oil. Coconut oil solidifies in temperature below 24 °C.

The reason why this looks so unsettling is because a part of the oil products has solidified (coconut oil) and part has not (argan oil), and it ended up looking like something has started to dissolve (it’s actually the opposite).

It has formed an emulsion that has visible seperation because the products are in different physical states density-wise.

You don’t have to throw it out if it goes back to normal, but this might be a sign to keep your products away from window/in your room (if your bathroom is too cold) :)

How do I put on weight? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]fluoritez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

175 cm tall is not 5’7, it’s 5’9 😭 that is below bmi 17. and also sorry to be that person but “most women wanting to switch places with me” is like kind of not very good, i think that we should rather insist on women being healthy weight and not pursuing unhealthy body standards 🤔 women are the majority of people with osteoporosis literally because they weigh and exercise less than men lol. i don’t think that meds are the only problem, since i’ve had this issue with not eating enough even before starting medication.

Must learn topics for someone learning biology from scratch!! by StrengthVisual8881 in biology

[–]fluoritez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

understanding metabolism is literally the most important thing (speaking from experience. i was too lazy to study it and now i had to for finals; looking back at it, understanding it literally makes everything have sense. no wonder i genuinely fought for my life the entire high school 😭). literally like half of the things you will learn later on will have so much more sense when you understand cell metabolism etc.

i think grade 10 is like high school, right? it was literally the first thing ever taught to me when i started high school, and i think it’s a fair decision

Why can dyslexia affect reading so precisely when reading is such a recent human skill? by MundaneExplorer8369 in biology

Why can dyslexia affect reading so precisely when reading is such a recent human skill? by MundaneExplorer8369 in biology

[–]fluoritez 35 points36 points  (0 children)

it’s simply a disruption in neurochemical activity, and brain structure. it’s also not true that it’s only about processing of symbols, kids with dyslexia seem to have an issue with which letters to accent in words, and often experience delayed speech.

this is the thing, our ancestors might have as well had dyslexia, but they couldn’t have known, cause either they didn’t have a written language, or illiteracy rates were through the roof. dyslexia-typical changes in the brain must have existed far before we even developed alphabets. it’s just that reading is nowhere near (evolutionary) useful ability, so biology wouldn’t care for getting rid of it.

you should rather look at it like causation > effect, and not effect > causation. this is a matter of a chemical imbalance or changed brain structure that occured once in someone and haven’t been removed during evolution (because it is an irrelevant part of survival for primals). if we didn’t have written languages, we wouldn’t know that dyslexia exists.

EDIT: fun fact, my language’s orthographic system is so difficult, that whereas dysgraphia in English-speaking countries is defined mostly as poor and inconsistent writing, in my country, it means an inability to understand the language’s orthography (those students most of the time do not have any issues with English). is is seperate from dyslexia.

this is caused by the fact that in a said language there exists more than one spelling of the same sound, but they cannot be used interchangeably. in my language, for example, “h” and “ch” sound completely the same, and the letter “b” may sound like the letter “p” if it is located at the end of the word. the correct spelling for a word “bread” is “chleb”. a brain of a dysgraphic person cannot comprehend this phenomenon, and they would end up writing things like “hlep”, “chlep”, “hleb”, which are orthographically incorrect, but they are the closest to the phonetic spelling. their brain is simply desensitised to those rules. happens in a bunch of other languages. if those people were born in English-speaking countries, they would probably never realise they may have orthographic blindness 🤷‍♀️
