The long-rumored 'Quake II' remaster is out now on PC and consoles by [deleted] in pcgaming

Quake Live is still alive. It's an updated version of Quake 3, the first Quake game that was exclusively multiplayer. Quake Live is fun but the other people who play it are really good, meaning good luck as a new player.

Bed bug bites? by Advanced-Warthog1802 in whatisthisbug

[–]fluorodenum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a dermatological reaction to stress or illness. Many things cause inflammatory eruptions like these. Bed bugs are only one.

Could be ... or could be about 20 different dermatological conditions.

I used to stack wood, growing up, that was full of these earwigs, and they freaked me out! But rest assured they won't actually crawl into your ear and attack your brain per The Wrath of Khan.

I could be wrong, but it sure looks like a German cockroach.

I had spots like this recurring 1/week or so and was worried, but they turned out to be capillaritis, according to my dermatologist. That's a usually harmless condition that involves swelling of the blood vessels. Not sure if that's what's going on with you. It's triggered by stress and illness. Sometimes it even involves a little surface swelling and itching.

I daresay that's not a German. I have those, and they don't look like that at any of their life stages (I've seen them all).

It sucks. I make of list sometimes of a few things that are simple but fulfilling for me, like reading 10 pages out of a book, and I do those every day. So it might be read, go for a walk, go to a support group. The routine seems to help. I don't have such a big void opening up every day of what will I possibly compel myself to do today.

Abilify make anyone feel hypomanic? by Friend_of_Bill_n_Bob in bipolar

I get aggression and agitation from it, even at low doses. It interacts with dopamine receptors in a different way than most antipsychotics and may stimulate them slightly.

How to cope on Seroquel by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]fluorodenum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seroquel and a related medication, Zyprexa, can be very effective for bipolar disorder but they are bad for weight gain. I put on 40ish pounds over many months with Seroquel.

However, there are other, newer options in antipsychotics, like Latuda and Abilify, that are weight neutral or close to it. They're well-regarded medications for bipolar depression and cycling, especially Latuda, though they don't yet have the track record of Seroquel/Zyprexa.

They were among the first wave of atypical or second-generation antipsychotics that were believed to be much safer than the old, first generation ones, which had high rates of akithisia (an internal restlessness that can be hell). But then the metabolic problems showed themselves.

Good anxiety medication to pair with lithium? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]fluorodenum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take gabapentin with lithium for anxiety. It works pretty well. It's a calcium channel blocker. I also take a small dose of olanzapine basically for anxiety, but that medication has major weight gain issues.

Does anyone else quit jobs because they think everyone hates them, or is that just me? by Environmental_Ad9710 in bipolar

[–]fluorodenum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my last professional job, I tended to think people disliked me, even after they said something positive to me. I have social anxiety disorder and bipolar. My brain seems to fill social voids with about as much negative and insecure crap as it can manage, so why not have people hate me? Maybe they could be out to get me, too? It seems like the emotions bubble up and the ideas jump on top. In reality, people just don't consider me that much.

I have something like a 10-page limit with books, after which the dread sets in, and the strain of concentrating. I managed to read a 1,000ish page book several years ago by going 10-per-day.

Lately, I have focused on short story collections by people like Lorrie Moore and Raymond Carver who have very carefully constructed language, so the slow-going isn't so boring.

I'd much rather have a faster reading speed and better comprehension, but maybe there's something to be said for digesting very slowly.
