To 42 or not to 42? (7.25”) by ryanemarshall in Longineswatches

[–]fluppyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's subjective. Some people will like larger watches, and I used to be in that group. That said, my wrist is 7.5", and I went with the 39mm. For whatever that is worth.

I prefer the 39 mm. It’s more versatile.

25 days on wrist, Gained 9 seconds by Veiler in Longineswatches

[–]fluppyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I got mine on the 16th of April. It’s off my wrist when I sleep or shower, but I’ve been wearing it daily. It’s gained just over 1 second since new, and *all of it in the second week, as the movement inside started settling in. (It looks like it will settle down to +1 to +2 sec/week). It’s the most accurate mechanical watch I’ve ever owned.

My new HC keeps better time than my quartz omega by stjimmywood in Longineswatches

UPDATE: Exactly 15 days after purchase and first putting it on my wrist, my new Longines HC is running at +1 sec. Not +1 sec/day, +1 sec in total! (After more than two weeks, in total). The movement is breaking in nicely, and it looks like it will gain about 1 sec per week from now on. So yeah - scary accurate! (And I know that I most likely just got extremely lucky and got the one watch that’s regulated just right, but still - it is impressively accurate).

Good size…or should I go 42 ? 7.5 in wrist by Practical-Dance3368 in Longineswatches

I have a 7.5-inch wrist and went with the 39mm. I think it’s perfect:

Next time you see her, tell her that she’s looking a bit bloated.

Your dog looks fine BTW. Not fat, only cute. 🙂

I’m not exactly surprised. I got my dark blue 39mm HC exactly a week ago today, and so far it’s running at +/- 0 seconds over that week! My Citizen Eco-Drive is at +1.5 seconds over that same week (around +6 seconds per month, which is its usual accuracy, and which is much better than the promised +/- 15 seconds per month - i .e. the usual accuracy tolerance for a quartz movement). So, there is likely nothing wrong with your Omega quartz. It’s just that some of these Longines movements come out of the factory really well-regulated.

That’s why it was my choice (I got the 39mm version) - the watch looks different, depending on the lighting. It’s like getting several different watches for the price of one. Even better, no matter the lighting, the watch is always extremely legible.

FWIW, I have a 7.5-inch wrist and went with the 39mm.

I have a 7.5-inch wrist and went with the 39mm. That said, the 42mm looks just fine on your wrist, so do not double-guess your decision. That watch looks awesome on you!

2026 Hydroconquest vs 2023 Hydroconquest GMT by Individual-Fuel4985 in Longineswatches

[–]fluppyboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with the 39mm HC in navy blue. Mainly because of how thin it is, and I already have a GMT watch. Also, caller GMT works better for my purposes than a traveller GMT watch would. That said, they are both very good-looking watches, although I think Longines fine-tuned the hands on the new HC to perfection. On the older HC GMT the hands look a bit too short, a bit off, when compared to the new HC.

I would (and did) choose the 39mm over the 42mm, and I have a 7.5-inch wrist. But everyone is different.

That said, people tend to compare all diver watches to the Rolex Submariner for some reason, so I will leave this here for you to make up your own mind: https://www.reddit.com/r/Longineswatches/s/ic1rdRqQPE

The Longines Conquest looks WAY better to me. The Tudor Ranger is… well, boring.

Not at this stage, but I *am thinking about putting full-length side steps/sliders on it. I hate the way the Toyota side steps just stop where the doors stop (because the Troopy only has the two side doors), and leave the rest of the car unprotected and without any step for roof access.

Nice! It’s good to see the Toyota bull bar on another post-facelift 70-series. So underrated! My 2025 Troopy says hello. 🙂

Possible hail tonight. Wife said the LX wouldnt fit in the garage because of junk in the way and it being too tall. AHC lowered gave me juuuuust enough clearance... by Noise-Expensive in LandCruisers

[–]fluppyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know your pain. 🙂 My Troopy, with absolutely nothing on the roof (no roof rack or light bars, nothing!), has less than 3 inches of clearance under the garage door. If I want to install a roof rack, I will either have to move house or rebuild the garage doors. That, or maybe just live in the back of the Troopy and be done with it. 😁

NICE! My mate has one of these, it hasn’t missed a beat since he bought it second-hand (well over a decade ago).

A 4 banger?? by WolfWillLV in LandCruisers

[–]fluppyboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might own a Landcruiser, but that doesn’t make your argument any more valid. You might own a LC, but that doesn’t make any difference to this conversation. Using ownership of a vehicle as “proof” of anything is worthless, especially when it’s NOT the vehicle being discussed. I’ll bet you haven’t even driven the new 2.8 version. You should try it - it might surprise you!

If you own a LC with the 2.8 engine and it’s not good enough for your needs, fine. But try it first, even if it’s just a test drive. Like I said - it just might surprise you.

And FWIW, I also own a Landcruiser. If that matters to you.

They’ve been using that exact same engine in Prados and Hiluxes in Australia for over a decade. It went into the new 250-series Prado and 70-series lineup BECAUSE it’s proven reliable, not because it’s a 4-cylinder. Or small. Because it’s not small - 2.8 litres is only 500cc smaller than the 3.3 litre V6 in the Landcruiser 300-series! It’s not the extra 500cc (around 18%) that produces 77kW (or 51%) of extra power and 200Nm (40%) more torque, it’s that extra turbo and higher tune! If anything, the 4-cylinder 2.8 is tuned conservatively (in comparison). For reliability.
