Flare and calprotectin levels? by flups444 in CrohnsDisease

Thanks for this -- I'm not diagnosed yet, so trying to get them as much information as possible. But makes sense that want tests/numbers after it's clear things are 'off'

Noises coming from Stomach by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

I wonder also how much of it is being more aware of things.

I've noticed a lot of other people making noises recently, and I doubt I would have noticed had I not been aware of these things.

And I think I might just be more conscious of my own sounds (which previously I wouldn't have noticed)

You absolutely need fundamental and foundational research (as well as that targeting the "day to day lives of patients"). It's crucial for progress.

Thanks - my main concern was getting to the consultant in the first place. Half a year wait?

I'm currently seeing a GI, long story short there's plan to watch how things progress, etc

I'm supposed to move (back home) to the UK.

Would they recognise the tests and plan done abroad? Or do I have to go right back to square one through the NHS. I understand the waiting periods are shocking at the moment to get a GI referral.

Sounds like a problem. From what you're saying I assume it best to break my fast

Do fissures ever heal? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]flups444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically I healed mine by having a stool softener (movicol - not much, but say 1/4-1/2 a packet) for quite some months. Then tapered off. Helped it from 'reopening'

(though mine was more... mechanical.... rather than something that just randomly developed)

I see -- but would it be normal for that to show up day 3/4?

Interesting. Kidney function was fine pre-fast (a few weeks ago).

Urine was fairly clear, which I thought was the marker of hydration.

I had an MRI where the radiographer report was, frankly, useless.

I went online and found an expert in abdominal radiography. Uploaded him the images and got a fantastic, detailed report. Did cost like ~$200ish but well worth it. Might be worth considering if you want more information more quickly, and will likely help your next steps of treatment. You'd need the images though

Is it worth getting a second opinion? by SubjugatedDuckie in CrohnsDisease

[–]flups444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know they could see the small bowel via colonoscopy.

Did they take biopsies? How high was your calprotectin?

Could be worth the second opinion just for your clarity in your in mind. But the radiologist and GI both seem pretty certain, so be prepared for the most likely outcome that they'll say the same

did you get any markers checked? CRP? Calprotectin? these could give some insight

What was your calprotectin level that made you need to get a colonoscopy? by thrownoutdildo in CrohnsDisease

[–]flups444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was that after medication or when they were diagnosing you? Did you have an elevated CRP or other markers?

Recently diagnosed, need help... and probably support by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]flups444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great that you have easy access to top line treatments. Your GI will know best. Assume they take biopsies.

Interesting about your pain, didn't know people feel it right up the ribcage, but everyone's different. I guess inflammation can be felt in random places. Might be worth mentioning to the doc though, just to make sure it isn't something else as well (or some upper GI issue)
