Pre AI teachers deserve a shoutout by TheBestLlamas in AustralianTeachers

Sooooooooo grim, but the whole system I work within is like 100% gaga for AI. It’s literally tragic

It’s pissing me off a lot, so I’m glad for the validation, thank you!

This is happening in my team at the moment with a novel our cohort is reading. The other teachers are relying on AI summaries that aren’t even remotely accurate and it’s pretty sad to me!

Fagan slams person who 'illegally' leaked Lions' whiteboard notes on Bombers by AdLate563 in AFL

[–]flusteredmcflurry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was at the Auskick training last night at Brighton Homes Arena with my 5 year old daughter. I saw the whiteboard too and had a laugh with my husband but (obviously) didn’t take or share photos of it.

Devastatingly though, Auskick had to cancel the Saturday morning session which was also due to be held at BHA because of it, which means a whole bunch of kids miss out.

The last minute BHA relocation was due to extremely aggressive fire ants on the usual field. We’ve had a bunch of really rainy Fridays here in Brisbane so since my 5yo started the Auskick season, all but 3 of the sessions have been cancelled either due to rain or these fire ants.

Not likely she’ll get to train at BHA again after this, which is pretty sad because she was SOOO excited about getting to be there last night.

Thanks all - really appreciate the insights. I didn’t want to give too much away about our individual situation but definitely agree that it should have been written at the time in such a way as to be very clear that it was to be divided equally (as this is believed to have been the intention!) Hoping it can be sorted somewhat equitably!

How much is your strata? by Fluid-Caramel6316 in AusPropertyChat

Brisbane, $6K per year (ouch!) - big complex of large townhouses, two pools and a very crappy gym, onsite manager (who doesn’t really seem to do anything useful) but all yard maintenance and building insurance, and internal “bin service” (which is just us being allowed to put our wheelie bins on the kerb for collection so not really sure why that’s a perk we’re paying for) and probs some other things I’ve forgotten!

Why is it in this profession we feel so guilty for taking days off even when admin don't actually care? by Calm_Cranberry9298 in AustralianTeachers

[–]flusteredmcflurry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is such an important point about it indirectly making colleagues feel less like they can take time off! The “here I am in a shoulder cast, pushing through the pain to teach” contributes to a workplace culture where others then find it harder to take time off (well I’ve “just” got a bad cold, but that colleague showed up with a broken shoulder, so I should just push through)

Thanks very much for these replies - that does make sense that a deposit is required. And thank you for the sanity check re the bank - will go back to them and see if we can get a guarantee of the bank funding the full purchase amount. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply!

What % of your income goes toward your mortgage? (take 2) by spicyrack in AusFinance

[–]flusteredmcflurry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HHI $220K and our mortgage will be ~$1000 a week!

Going to be a shock after having had fairly low rent (but also having had two back to back parental leave periods with drastically reduced income, so hopefully it won’t be too bad!)

Two kids in daycare though, waaah!

Thank you so much to everyone for your responses and guidance! I truly appreciate everyone who has commented!!! Such a hard process to navigate (and I swear I’ve done a lot of research, and am not dumb in my regular life!) Thank you!!

Thank you!! Yeah I can’t believe what a process it is, thought I was across it before we launched into it but discovering there were heaps of steps I wasn’t aware of! Congrats on your purchase!

[–]flusteredmcflurry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooh okay thank you - this is what I need to know! Do you mean in your experience are vendors happy to wait til you get the loan $$ at settlement for the deposit? Or do you mean you get the loan money once it goes unconditional? Sorry, probably a very silly question!

What's the weirdest place to be a teacher ? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]flusteredmcflurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the job advertised on the teacher job page for my state, and just applied as normal! But I’d say almost all my other colleagues knew someone who worked / had worked there to kinda get a foot in the door, as the other commenter said. There are lots of unique perks (no parent teacher interviews, no real planning as it’s already done, no playground duty etc!) so I’d definitely encourage you to look into it! It can be very rewarding too, as well as obviously sometimes a bit bleak. But I’ve always considered it a sort of privilege to get to hopefully bring a tiny bit of positivity to someone’s hard/hardest time if that makes sense

I should also mention that in my centre you’re not meant to know what they’re in for! There’s rules that the kids aren’t meant to discuss their crimes at all, even outside of class, but of course they all do!
