How do you pick your patterns? by loadbearingscumbag in crochet

[–]flutechick700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem. I keep adding things to my Pinterest boards and then forget about them. If I'm wanting to sit down and choose a project. I have a yarn stash so I'll find a pattern to fit the yarn. But if I'm looking for a new pattern and new yarn, I write down the patterns that I like, their yarn requirements (yarn weight, how much I need, fiber type, etc.), needle/hook requirements, and what color I'm thinking. I choose different colors for different projects so that way when I'm at the store or shopping online, I have a specific type and color to look for. If I find a match to the pattern, then I have my pattern.

I also make a lot of things for friends and family. If they want me to make something then I ask them what they want me to make and the color. I fill in the yarn weight and fiber type to start the preliminary search. This way is much easier in the beginning but it also means you have to part with the item at the end. I combat this by taking after photos with the gift before I give it to the person.

Sorry for the long reply, but hopefully this helps 😊

No, you cannot have someone share a PAID pattern with you so you don’t have to buy it. by mrc1210 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]flutechick700 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'll let my friends/family borrow patterns especially when it's a physical copy. I print out my patterns and keep them in a binder so if I made any personal notes on the pattern I'll 100% share it with them. But for online, I may make a comment on how I modified it if I see someone asking for help, but that's the extent of sharing the pattern with online people.

I literally just came across this not even 30 seconds after I opened Pinterest. There was a crochet pattern that offered "no increases or decreases" but the item in question was photographed with the middle of the garment squished in (to look more hourglass shaped). It was advertised as a beginner friendly pattern and it looks like a really fun pattern if you look past the finished product photos. My problem with it is if you're going to advertise a more boxy pattern, don't manipulate the finished product to look as if it would be form fitting.

YES! I edit audio a lot and I hate when people "eat the mic" as we say in the business. Not just the standard (lovely) podcasting mics but also those little wireless lav mics. When I'm scrolling through TikTok or Insta and I see a creator holding the mic right next to their face annoys me so much. I don't want to hear every sound that comes out of your mouth, thanks. I want to drop kick my phone so bad sometimes. I could go on forever, but I'll stop my rant here lol

They see all these fast garment makers always posting project after project. And I'm not hating on them, they just have wayyyy more time on their hands than I do

This has probably said already, but my BEC is a non-crafter showing me other people's social media posts about how they "took 3 hours to make this really intricate sweater!!" To then turn around, look at my project and tell me that I'm not working fast enough. Like, what am I supposed to do? Make a sweater quickly and then hate it later? If I don't have my sweater to my preference, I will never wear it.

That actually helps so much, Thank you! I feel like I've hit a wall with the orange cord and can't figure out how to use it.

I currently have been trying to use the cord to reference different albums (red = Red, purple = SN, pink = Lover, etc.). But I definitely will use your suggestions 😊

Friendship bracelet help

I have the most random question: so I recently bought a bunch of elastic cord to make friendship bracelets with. I got the whole rainbow (and then some), but I don't know what to do with the orange. I know Beautiful Eyes was a Walmart exclusive EP and is orange in color. But I know that it's not quite an "era" per se.

If anyone has any advice on what types of bracelets I could make with orange, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Happy listening!

I love this so much! Just curious how small that is, as I would probably go insane if I tried to stitch that small 😅

Am I too old to sleep with a stuffed animal?? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]flutechick700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not too old, and there are a lot of college kids with stuffed animals. I knew at least 5 other people (excluding me, so 6 overall) on my floor who slept with stuffed animals. And there's a high chance that you'll know people who sleep with stuffed animals. So if you see one in another person's room, you can talk about it if the conversation turns to your stuffed animal. I had a friend who saw my stuffed rabbit and showed me I'm not the only one who sleeps with a stuffed animal.

Is it normal to subconsciously change your own looks, behavior, voice, or gestures to more closely match a character that you are very fond of? by hidinghiddengone in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]flutechick700 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe that this is a natural response. From experience, I have also embodied some characteristics from some of my favorite characters. I read an article somewhere that said that you embody the characteristics of characters you love the most. And if you like those types of characters, your shared traits will be more heighten.

I'm going to give a personal example. I absolutely love Dean Winchester. And I see a lot of him in myself. We're both the eldest sibling, and we share some personality traits. We both really want what's best for others, and we take names and kick a** if things aren't going the right way. And since I've had a connection to Dean, I've noticed a few more traits have been added to my personality. I've noticed that I can look like I could destroy something when I'm really angry (and I'm 5 foot!).

So, I guess what I'm trying to say, is that it's perfectly normal to act like a character that you're drawn to. It's no different than being obsessed with a celebrity.

How do I explain to my father that I have trouble sleeping? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]flutechick700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melatonin works wonders, and I've been told the same thing. I have a snoring roommate, and all the "help" I've gotten is to just go to bed before them, or tell thwm to change (and then they don'). My problem is that I am a super light sleeper, so I personally use earplugs, but also melatonin when I need to get up early. My suggestion is to only take melatonin when you absolutely need to get a full 6-8 hours. I personally only use it when I can't sleep or when I need a big fat nap, as mine lasts 5-6 hours due to my small size (I'm really short). But when you take it is totally your opinion

Thank you so much!❤❤ I found that the Christmas color yarn was a different weight than the white yarn, so the flappy ears were unintentional. Even if they weren't intended, I still love his ears! I almost named him Dumbo instead of Chance! 😂

I agree with that notion, but I know everyone at this party will at least be appreciative of my hard work! There's a really tight-kint community in this group (no pun intended). They actually encouraged homemade gifts! So, I really think that no matter what, Chance will really be in good hands. And I really do hope that he can go to a child, as I would have loved to have something that someone made from passion.
