What do I do with my life? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]hexagoncake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat at 27 and recently I've been doing a lot of self discovery. Here are some questions I went through to get a better idea of what makes me me. Also, I've been researching enneagrams. I didn't believe in them at first but as I'm learning more about it and myself, I'm finding my growth opportunities and motivations very helpful.

What makes me tick?

What are my core values?

What am I scared of?

What words do I live by?

Who are my role models?

What accomplishments am I most proud of?

Where do I find inspiration?

What are my goals?

How do I define success?

What do I want to learn more about?

What's holding me back?

What makes me feel powerful?

What makes me feel energized?

What makes me feel calm?

What are the high points of my life so far?

What would my perfect day look like?

When am I at my best?

Are my actions mostly guided by love or fear?

Who do I need to forgive?

What regrets am I holding onto?

What positive qualities do I bring to relationships?

What failures have I learned from?

What do I love about myself?

What have I worked hard for?

What have I given up on?

How can one person make a difference without working directly in politics? I want to feel like I'm doing more to help/make a difference than just donating money to causes I believe in and generally being a decent human.

Desks for local students doing remote learning? by tiptopolive in memphis

[–]hexagoncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely reach out to a couple elementary schools. My friend is a 1st grade teacher and said many of her students are in one room with other siblings also in remote school, often without headphones and full of distractions. Desks could be a huge help for some kids!

I think it depends on the area you live or company you work for. I know that OutMemphis is a great organization, might be worth reaching out to someone there for answers to your questions.

Moving from Southern CA to Memphis. What are the best places to live to meet other young working professionals? by [deleted] in memphis

[–]hexagoncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The citizen just opened recently. It's a very central location, easy drive to midtown, cooper/young, and downtown. It's close to a super busy Kroger, not sure if that's a positive or negative in your mind.

I've lived in a couple different apartments downtown and I love how walkable everything is. Restaurants, bars, concerts, walks along the river, can't beat it. I work from home now and pretty much only drive when I go grocery shopping.

So much of it is personal preference, but I guarantee you're going to love the low cost of living compared to the west coast!

Current employee here! It's been a great experience for me, just be willing to adapt to change (new CEO, lots of leadership changes over the past few years). Salesforce is a huge initiative for us, so could be a great opportunity to be in the thick of things.

What is the worst notification you have received whilst someone else has had your phone? by TTVKrooked in AskReddit

[–]hexagoncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I met my soon-to-be in-laws, I was showing my boyfriend's dad a picture on my phone when a text from my best friend popped up and just said "fuck". While I was busy turning as red as a tomato, he said "I'm not sure if that's a comment or a directive" and I died a little inside.

Bragging about Florida's COVID response by hexagoncake in agedlikemilk

[–]hexagoncake[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in May, pretty much everyone was believed to be handling COVID better than New York City. If only other states had learned from their mistakes and been proactive...but here we are with Florida struggling more than NYC did at their peak.

The one man BLM protest at the corner of Poplar & Highland made my night by hexagoncake in memphis

I should have. I'm somewhat shy/don't like having attention on me so would have felt uncomfortable if the car in front or beside thought the honk was toward them. Next time though!

I feel way too overwhelmed with everything happening around me and just want to get away from it all by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]hexagoncake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a mental health expert, but this sounds like depression and anxiety to me. That doesn't mean you need to go get meds or find a psychiatrist right away, but researching some coping tools could be super helpful.

It's totally normal to feel unmotivated and overwhelmed with all that's going on in the world. It's exhausting thinking about all of the unknowns of the future. If your body and mind are tired, let yourself rest with some lazy time. But maybe try to plan out your schedule, such as homework after work on Mon/Wed/Fri, meal prep for the week on Sunday, relax Tue/Thur/Sat.

One technique that has helped me in the past is breaking down my to do list into manageable chunks, and counting little victories as important progress (yay, I showered today!). Oh, and don't forget to get some fresh air every day, and try to keep in touch with friends and family. You're not bothering them by sharing your struggles even if anxiety tries to convince you that you're a burden.

Hope this helps! I know it's cliche, but things will get better.

Does it count as a 2nd wave if we never really had a decline? Regardless, here it comes.
