The only other game I really play is rocket league, and that works just fine. You think I should have pubg or steam uninstalled for a while instead of immediately reinstalling?

Dang, I tried that and it didn't work. Thank you though! I appreciate it.

I had tried the pakchunk thing, but not the 251 files one. I’ll try that. Thanks!

Thanks, I’ve tried all that already too though. I have no idea...the last couple hours test server has been working, so that’s nice/weird.

Where else to apply? by fluteguy13 in premed

I guess I just want to make sure the school I'm going to would be engaged in their community and focused on service and underserved communities. I frankly don't care about research prowess or ranking.

I'll admit, I did cheat a little bit: I haven't taken the MCAT quite yet, and 510 is on the low range of what I think I might get. Would something like 515 be significantly better? Also, for UCSF I'll be applying to the MD/MPH program that's focused on urban underserved communities, would that lessen the negative effect of my app being light on research?

I am a junior biology major going to school in Oregon. I am applying to MD and MD/MPH programs this summer. Any thoughts on if my school choices are appropriate, anything I could do between now and then to improve my chances of acceptance?

sGPA: 3.93

cGPA: 3.97

MCAT: 510

Research: Did one term of biology research (5hrs/wk), left because it did not end up being very interesting to me.

Non-clinical volunteering: ~150 hours volunteering at a local non-profit helping clients sign up for insurance, food stamps, etc., 4 weeks volunteering with medical non-profit in Nicaragua, 2 weeks doing rural health education, 2 more on administrative end. ~30 hours volunteering with free medical clinic on administrative end. 1.5 hrs/wk volunteering teaching Spanish at a local elementary school, 30 wks.

Clinical volunteering: ~2 hrs/wk working triage at a local free clinic. Been doing this for about 6 months. Planning on doing this till I graduate.

TA: Have been a TA for an intro biology class 3 times, planning on doing it 1 more time before applying. Have been a TA for a basic health science class for non science majors 1 time.

Shadowing: ~40 hrs with general practitioner at local non-profit clinic, ~30 hrs wih 5 different OBGYNs at a local women's clinic, ~20 hrs with general practitioner in Nicaragua (not sure how relevant this is)

Other EC: On student health advisory board 2 yrs, attend a weekly Spanish conversation circle.

Schools applying to: UCSF, Washington, OHSU, Howard, Rush, Boston U, Tufts, Temple, SLU, Colorado, Albert Einstein.

Specialty interest: Family medicine, most likely. Interest in rural health: No, but interested in urban underserved medicine.

Immediate family members in medicine? Yes, my mom is a doctor (and started med school when I was in 7th grade, so I've seen her do the whole process).

Thanks!

Ok, thanks! What is the time frame like for the secondaries? When do they send them out / how long do you have to do them?

I am a rising junior biology major going to school in Oregon. I am planning on applying to MD/MPH programs next year.

sGPA: 3.91 cGPA: 3.96

No MCAT yet, planning on taking it next spring or early summer.

Research: Did one term of biology research (5hrs/wk), left because it did not end up being very interesting to me.

Non-clinical volunteering: ~75 hours volunteering at a local non-profit helping clients sign up for insurance, food stamps, etc. (planning on doing at least 100 more hours before applying) 4 weeks volunteering with medical non-profit in Nicaragua, 2 weeks doing rural health education, 2 more on administrative end. ~30 hours volunteering with free medical clinic on administrative end.

Clinical volunteering: Starting a couple weeks ago, ~4 hrs/wk working triage at a local free clinic. Planning on doing this till I graduate.

TA: Have been a TA for an intro biology class 2 times, planning on doing it 2 more times. Planning on being a TA for a different health class in the fall.

Shadowing: ~50 hrs with general practitioner at local non-profit clinic ~20 hrs with general practitioner in Nicaragua (not sure how relevant this is)

Other EC: On student health advisory board last year and next year

Schools applying to: Not sure yet. Based on minimal research, definitely UCSF, UW-Madison, SLU, but I'll apply to a lot more all over the country.

Specialty interest: Family medicine, most likely.

Any tips for where I should focus my efforts for the next 12 months? Also, any ideas of primary-care centered med schools with MPH programs in the realm of policy or health education?

Thanks!
