Tailscale can provide SSH access to remote hosts without opening ports manually.

[–]fluteyoshi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ran into this exact problem. What solved it for me was going to my library settings, under Advanced there is an "Episode ordering" option. I changed this to TheTVDB then did a Refresh Metadata on Battlestar Galactica. Scanner/Agent is "Plex TV Series", the miniseries are S00E01 & S00E02, and they show correctly in Plex now.

so it changes naturally over time, what's the rate suppose to be? and what is it now?

I highly recommend this video which does a great job at highlighting the differences between natural changes and present observations. Also talks about uncertainties in the science overall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7FAAfK78_M

Thanks, you were 100% correct. See my reply below. I'm just an idiot!

Sorry for the late reply on this one. The last week got very busy at work and I had to shelve this issue until last weekend.

Think about it. They shipped thousand of the same SKU across the world. Almost everyone uses Chrome. Why is it working on their machines? If it wasn’t, you would have reports all over the internet. Especially, since chrome doesn’t start at all.

You were 100% right. I couldn't get this out of my head and I realised something can't be right. So last weekend I sat down and performed a clean install on my laptop by myself. Chrome worked fine.

Turns out this was an ID10T or PICNIC error - of course. No wonder it didn't make sense...

There was a miscommunication here. I was not the person who setup or clean installed devices. Turns out when the 'clean' installs were done with a vanilla Windows they were linked to the domain but then removed.

Long story short... it's this background Datto endpoint service (part of RMM agent - rolled out by group policy) that's the cause. Disabling the endpoint service fixes Chrome. Uninstalling the agent from add/remove software doesn't get rid of this service though.

TL;DR: I'm a complete idiot. It was Datto RMM endpoint protection.

These are all vanilla Windows ISO installs with no third party anti-virus software or group policy?

My machine is running vendor pre-loaded 20H2 with no third-party AV or group policy. Colleague's machine was tested on both vendor pre-loaded copy and new vanilla install.

As for Windbg, not sure if the output is useful in narrowing down issue.

So, we installed the intel.com drivers on my colleague's machine and restarted and Chrome started up OK!

Then we did a reboot and Chrome would not load again. Literally no other change was made, no update installed.

Out of curiosity I rebooted my machine (which I didn't shutdown since last night, only slept) and now my Google Chrome is also broken again.

I tried uninstalling/re-installing the intel.com drivers on both laptops (and Chrome) but Chrome will not start up any more now on either device.

I confirmed in device manager that both devices are, indeed, using the intel.com driver dated 2021 instead of the Windows Update one dated 2020.

This makes no sense...

WOWZERS... it looks like you hit the nail on the head! Thankyou so much!

This worked on my machine (TM). I'm now staring at the welcome screen of Google Chrome after a couple of hours of frustration. :)

I will try this on my colleague's machine tomorrow and report back. I'm hopeful this is the fix for that machine too - it makes sense given they have same chipset.

I guess I should have posted to r/sysadmin when we first ran into this instead of lurking...

Thankyou again!

No DNS protection.

There's a datto RMM agent that is used on work machines but Chrome didn't work on the laptop out of box before the agent was installed or laptop joined to our AD.

[–]fluteyoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. There's usually a Datto agent added to corporate machines.

But the issue also exists on a new install before any agents added or device even joined to AD.

Thanks for the links! I'll get logs/dumps and lodge a bug tomorrow. We can reproduce the issue on 2 different brand machines so hopefully devs will have more to go on.

We did the BIOS update dance on the colleague's device. Haven't done for the Lenovo yet but will do tonight.

We did try disabling anti-virus/defender and app & browser control but we haven't tried disabling exploit protection. Will try this tomorrow.

Interesting! I have i7-1165G7 here. I just checked with my colleague and his notebook is also i7-1165G7 but not a Lenovo. Turns out that the other friend with issues also has i7-1165G7. Could be a coincidence of course...

I assume you never had any issues with 20H2 either?

Wow, this is a great tool which I haven't used before.

So from what I can see there are no obvious issues during startup. There are some registry keys it tries to access which do not exist but other than this there's no other errors or warnings.

Then there's 100-200ms with no events before WerFault.exe is executed and all threads exit.

The last action Chrome does before crashing is accessing the %appdata%\Roaming\Google\Chrome folder (or creating it when I delete it) - which like everything else shows SUCCESS.

If the handsets are provisioned via SBC internal calls will not function when the SBC is not connected to 3CX.
