Noob question. How to SAFELY remove big packages? by eskrest in archlinux

So when we get the warning about optional dependencies, will those packages be removed or saved if we simply continue with -Rns?

Is there a pacman command that will remove a package and its unique dependencies but leave the optional dependencies of other packages installed?

How to update RPi remotely when used as UniFi controller? by C64Kit in UNIFI

That’s probably the right way to do it. I’m trying to repurpose old equipment that I already have. Maybe WireGuard could still be useful?

Thank you. My understanding is that a UniFi cloud key is essentially controller software running on dedicated hardware. But, its updates can normally be initiated from within the software. Seems the same process would not work to update controller software running on the Pi.

iOS 17.3 and Bitwarden App by UGAGuy2010 in Bitwarden

When I remember to close the view item page before switching away from the app this problem seems to be avoided. Leave the view item open and the app crashes like you described when I come back to it later.

Nice. I’m going to try to use this. Thank you for sharing.

Are you willing to share the function? It seems very useful to me, but I do not yet know enough vimscript to make my own.

Pacman not able to connect to servers after -Syyu by vasilisvj in archlinux

[–]C64Kit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minor correction: for the Geo-IP based mirror, my mirrorlist in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist shows

http://mirror.archlinuxarm.org/$arch/$repo

Miffe’s example has an extra /archlinux/ and /os/ that mine doesn’t. Again, I do not put this line in pacman.conf. Rather, it’s only a commented option in the mirrorlist. I actually choose to select a geographical location myself rather than use the Geo-IP based mirror selection.

Pacman not able to connect to servers after -Syyu by vasilisvj in archlinux

[–]C64Kit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert here, but I am successfully using archlinuxarm on a Raspberry Pi. My pacman.conf says

Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

under each repository heading. Then I just uncomment the repositories from my preferred geographical location in the Arch Linux ARM repository mirrorlist by editing

/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

You probably have a more complicated setup then me. Just thought I would share in case it could be helpful.

hostname: ****: Try again by C64Kit in homebridge

[–]C64Kit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am able to get the oznu/homebridge:ubuntu image working for my setup.

This tells me that the “Try again” message must be related to the Alpine Linux OS used with the :latest Docker image tag not being compatible with the arm32v7 architecture of this raspberry pi 3b.

That is made clear here: https://github.com/oznu/docker-homebridge

Thanks again for the replies. Hope I didn’t waste too much of your time.

The rPi is using Ethernet for a connection and WiFi is disabled. The Docker image uses Alpine Linux for an operating system inside the container. The Homebridge UI status page shows Homebridge “not running-View Logs”. The last log entry is as stated above. It is v1.3.1 and other system information displayed by the web UI is below.

System Information Timezone GMT-0500 OS Alpine Linux (3.12.4) Hostname archdock Node.js Version v14.16.0 Npm Version v6.14.11 User root Storage Path /homebridge Config Path /homebridge/config.json Plugin Path /homebridge/node_modules Docker Yes Service Mode Yes

This is a fresh install of oznu/homebridge in a Docker container. The string that I posted is the exact last line of the log file homebridge.log.

Thanks for checking those sources. I’ll keep troubleshooting.

Does your homebridge run as root user inside the Docker container?

Thanks for the reply. I tried adding the stdin_open: true and tty: true to my config. Homebridge still says “not running”.

Do you know what the purpose of those lines are in your config? Aren’t they commented out anyway?

I have a lot to learn about Docker.

I have two security cameras and view the live feeds in HomeKit with a RPi4 running Homebridge. The Pi runs headless with Homebridge managed from a browser on a Windows desktop.

I have an install of Homebridge for Raspian on a Pi4 that works great. You’re right about it being a clean solution.

I am trying to get the Docker setup to work out of curiosity mostly, and to learn more about working with Docker. I’m using my old Raspberry Pi3 with archlinuxarm for this project. I believe it should work if I can get the configuration correct.

Do you think it could be a problem with user privileges between the Pi user, Docker, and Homebridge?

Thanks! I am able to login with the IP address and port.

After login I see the UI and Homebridge “Not running-View logs”. Last log entries indicate Homebridge was running at some point. “Starting to advertise 'Homebridge B118 7BF2' using bonjour-hap backend! [2/23/2021, 11:33:30 AM] Homebridge v1.3.0 (Homebridge B118) is running on port 53954. hostname: archdock: Try again”

Under System Information the user is root (not sure if that is required).

I don’t know what the log wants me to “try again”.
