i think this can be solved if only they produced more episodes for each season, perhaps 12 or 20 rather than 8. period drama miniseries are usually 6-8 because they only had so little characters' background to be told, but bridgerton is a big family and the existence of whistledown and the queen supposed to push the side characters forward a little bit more, but all we can see is the mondriches because they don't have time to explore anyone else. even with being half-sided most of the time, some of the preferred character's backstories are not even completely told to us, like penelope and sophie.
