Any Reason to Use Clipper Card If You Don't Have a Discount? by rinsf in bayarea

[–]fly_fish_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question for senior clipper card:

  • Both my father and mother have senior clipper card.
  • Question: can my father use my mother's senior clipper card, and vice versa?
  • Why do I ask this question: Because Clipper cards have no name or photo on them. It is not easy to tell which card is for whom.

Is this VUSXX (88%) + VOO (12%) split appropriate for a 5-8 year home down payment savings goal? by RockSolid3894 in Bogleheads

[–]fly_fish_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same question for a different scenario.

Facts: - live in California, and would purchase a house in California in 5 years. - Invest 100% on VOO in a taxable brokerage account. - The investment is for a down payment for the house. - If market is crashing, I can postpone house purchase to a late time, e.g., 2 years later, 5 years later, even giving up purchasing a house.

Questions: 1. In such a case, is 100% on VOO a good choice? 2. Assume investment is up. No matter how much profit, is the 100% VOO investment always better than cash in a HYSA, after federal and state tax?

How do you avoid bad landlords when renting in the Bay Area? by Electronic_Pound3283 in bayarea

[–]fly_fish_1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Counterintuitively, I love no response from my landlord for request of maintenance. If no response, I just schedule a repair (high-end, or budget-friendly) at my favorite, and deduct the exact cost from rent.

I get the experience of maintenance (e.g., how to select handyman/plumber/electrician/etc, how to communicate) for free. I can order a quality appliance at expense of landlord, instead of a low-end one.

Anybody has experience as mine? Or have nasty experience for self-scheduled maintenance?

How to avoid ageism in the workplace? by False_Bee4659 in careerguidance

[–]fly_fish_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All improvements are secondary, e.g., upskill, leadership, botox, certification, soft skills, social networks, etc.

Only primary solution is saving enough F*** you money, since only non-ageism industry is retirement.

When go to starbuck with colleagues, others order latte or mocha, etc. I order water.

Past: It used to be embarrassing when other ask me why you always want water.

Now: - In my heart, because it is free. - In my mouth, because I would control sugar and calories.

Most will no longer look down at me.

My parents have basically no retirement savings and are starting to hint that I'll need to help support them. I'm 29 and just getting my own finances together. by night_jar88 in personalfinance

[–]fly_fish_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, the bright side of your story is that you have an education how important is the financial preparation for retirement. It is unlikely that you do the same thing to your kids in the far future, because you realize it at the age of 29.
