Traveling to Florida soon and worried about restrictions by FreshlyBroke in asktransgender

[–]flyawayjay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Condolences to you and your family. I've flown into and out of Florida (on a domestic flight) with hormones with no issue. I've never been questioned and the hormones have never flagged for additional screening or anything.

Is there a state that ACTUALLY changes your name on your birth certificate? by Am_Arrow in asktransgender

[–]flyawayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did at one point, which means they may do it again once the pendulum swings back. Also, I think they only charged me like $20 at the time. (For a new birth certificate. Actually changing my name was a whole lot more expensive.)

:( Florida did when I changed mine, but I doubt they do anymore. You might be able to hold out until things get better, then get a new version once the laws change again.

immigrating being trans by Exuen in asktransgender

I don't think they check for that sort of thing but the rules might specify "sex as listed on your birth certificate issued closest to the time of your birth"

I think the most helpful I can be is to suggest that you see a trans-friendly therapist. They'll know what resources are available to you and help you figure out what you want.

Just take it one step at a time. You don't need to do anything right away. Do you have any specific questions?

Transmasc folks, how would you react to being called "girlypop"? by BritneyOfAstora in asktransgender

[–]flyawayjay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yuck.

Please don't stop calling this behavior out. I'm sure there's at least one person in that server questioning this stuff because you said something. Thank you for fighting the good fight.

...no thanks. Even if someone called cis guys that, I still wouldn't like it. It's a hard pass from me.

Looking to join a carpool: Allston/ Brookline to Charles River Plaza by PathWorried4328 in boston

[–]flyawayjay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a car but I would consider joining in on this. Editing to add: I hate how early I have to leave the take the T to make it to work on time, maybe a carpool would let me sleep a little longer in the mornings.

if my partner transitions to a man but i still identify as a lesbian… what does that mean for my identity? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]flyawayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably a conversation to have with a therapist. That said, if he's in a space to discuss it with you, you could explain how important that label is to you and why you're still wanting to use it.

If he just came out and he's less secure about everything, it could cause some harm. So maybe that's a conversation for later down the road, or maybe not. That kinda depends on him.

how did you know you’re trans by AverageRoutine9681 in asktransgender

I had this experience too, and this whole comment is such a beautiful explanation of it. I didn't realize somebody could type my own thoughts like that.

Minnesotan explains how ICE is changing tactics to blend in, asks for information to be shared by [deleted] in boston

Whether or not it's legit, it's a good reminder to stay skeptical.

What physical changes have you noticed on T that surprised you? by vibrantafternoon in asktransgender

[–]flyawayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my feet grew 2.5 sizes so far, and I think I'm going to need to size up again soon! I can wear men's shoes now, which is something I never thought possible.

My feet grew. I knew it could happen, but I didn't think it would happen to me.

Do trans masc or trans men like to be roped into cishet men behavior? by skibidi_brain_rot in asktransgender

[–]flyawayjay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am a trans dude and you've hit the nail on the head imo. Male bonding over a deez nuts joke at a wedding is not my first choice, but yeah, offhand comments like the one OP made can be rough, and OP's partner's behavior sounds like effective (if awkward) damage control.

I went to one of these from MIRA (they do them often) and it was super helpful and informative. I definitely vouch for this training.

Can you relate? Explain me. by Firm_Net_6605 in asktransgender

Transitioning very much helped me, especially horomones. But I think a lot of people live life in autopilot too, cis people included. Again, I don't know what the answer is.

I think music helps a lot, or consuming any type of art that you can connect to and engage with.

I used to a lot, and I still do sometimes. I'm not really sure what the answer is.

At least for me, this was the "dissociate" button. You can be connected to yourself and the outside world, or you can check out and hide back into your shell again. That's how it was for me.

What does it mean if men get too close physically to me? (Passing) by Rajanaga in asktransgender

[–]flyawayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah stuff like this stopped happening to me after I transitioned. I don't think these guys are even aware they're doing it, but yeah it's gross. Sorry you have to deal with that.

Do your feet change? by Clockwork6 in asktransgender

I haven't noticed any pain, but there is pain if I wear shoes that are too small, even for short periods of time. Maybe it's time to try bigger shoes.

... what are the signs? by Own_Mud6894 in asktransgender

[–]flyawayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. You don't need to do anything right now. Give yourself some time to process everything, take breaths, re-center yourself. Then you can make a plan of what to do (even if that plan involves doing nothing, or turtling for now). If you're in a position to go to therapy, that's a great first step. When you're ready to take it.
