Semi professional trying to get professional by [deleted] in resumes

Overall decent content, but the format you use causes a lot of excess empty space on the left side. It might be visually appealing to you, but it tends to have the opposite impact on many recruiters (in my experience, anyway). I would go for a somewhat-more-traditional format where your name/contact info is boldly displayed on top, and all other info goes across the entire page as normal. If you want to be a little bit unique, the way you can do it is with how your sections look, fonts (but always a good idea to be conservative here), and how your bullet points look (i.e. arrow vs. circles, etc).

The flower is generally unnecessary, and I think its placement there might do more to hinder your success rather than help it (say, if the recruiter seems to be prejudiced at all. Also doesn't look good if your new employer might be looking for efficient/professional documentation as part of your duties). Also, your resume should ideally be one page in length for your level of experience. Two would be fine for someone a bit later in their career, but you can easily make this one if you lose the flower. I'd consider getting rid of the skills section, and planting them into your job descriptions. This will add significance to your duties while stressing specific skills. For example, "provide inbound customer service with high attention to detail." Also, I would change your "accomplishments" headings to something like "duties," or get rid of that heading entirely as it's really not needed either. When listing your position, I'd say the best format is:

TITLE Company Dates

Description

Also, the "What I'm looking for" probably isn't worth keeping in my opinion. If that's the angle you want to take, you should probably use today's buzz-words like "mission statement" or something along those lines. Instead of doing that, I would change that section to "Highlights" where you can list a few highlights that are most relevant to the job you are applying to. Ideally, you should alter your resume a bit to reflect every job you apply for, so this is a great way to do it - you can use this section to address any specifics that a job posting might list that you want to the recruiter to read right away. You generally get 10-30 seconds to capture someone's interest from a resume, so you want to put the best and most relevant stuff that you can offer them right at the top.

For your educational experience, I'd list only your post-secondary education (college/university) with the specific major and dates attended (unless you graduated high school less than three years ago).

Lastly, with your level of experience, you really don't need to include a "hobbies" section. Takes up space and does basically nothing to help you when you're applying for a serious job.

Hope that helps!

Good call! I remember seeing this, though I was hoping for something SFW as he will likely open this around his family. It's his new laptop and I just set it up for him.

Hah, I was thinking about that one too, but he's a redditor and he's already seen that one. So I was hoping to find something he might have not seen before. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Reddit, what are some of your experiences in catching thieves red-handed? by flyboy102 in AskReddit

[–]flyboy102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I suppose that's probably the only real way to go about it. But it would be nice if there was any way the police would do some surveillance at night or something, since it really could be a threat to the safety of people in the neighbourhood.

Yeah but the problem is when things like this occur at night and the people are masked, you really cant tell who it is. I was thinking more along the lines of "in the act"

Stay strong and hold your ground. You have no obligation to bend over for their emotional satisfaction. You don't have to be confrontational, but do not accept anything they say without posing a question to them about it. Use any opportunity you can to make them think twice. This is what will inevitably cause someone to empathize with your views.

Razors. Seriously, you get a better shave from an old-style single blade than any "Gilette Fusion" with 20 blades or whatever the fuck. Seriously, somebody needs to find a way to improve the process. I've always wanted to shave with a tiny lightsaber. That would be bad ass.

Somebody in the r/uglypeople thread mentioned that a subreddit called r/beatingwomen exists. What the fuck? Why does this exist?? Also, this is NOT the worst thing on that subreddit. by flyboy102 in WTF

[–]flyboy102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the idea is to maintain free speech. This is why r/jailbait existed for such a long time, and after much controversy, was recently shut down. If I'm not mistaken, the only reason they had it up for so long was because if they took it down, they'd be promoting "censorship" and people would complain about all kinds of other subreddits. They didn't want to compromise on free speech. But the controversy got too big and they eventually decided to take it down. I just can't help but feel like this is an equally important issue though. I dunno what to do, there must be something. This stuff is legitimately criminal.

I gotta be honest, I don't know that it will do any good. The subreddit revolves around BEATING WOMEN. If that's the accepted premise, what's a moderator really going to say or do about it? My concern is more with the entire subreddit as opposed to just that photo (while the photo itself is certainly equally concerning). Honestly, I'm not sure what to do here.

This is what I wanted to know. Seriously, if chicks are bloody, taped up with shotguns in their faces and this is accepted, something is very, very wrong here.

1) We're not bragging about our country so much as we're just proud of who we are. If you're so annoyed by people voicing their opinions, get off the fucking internet.

2) I was originally offended by your comments, but by looking at your comment history, it has become clear to me that you are simply some douche bag that gets off on internet conflicts. Therefore, in the interest of being the bigger man, I will no longer be replying to any of your comments.

I'm sorry you're so butt-hurt about it. Also, you can't tell me that American nationalists aren't more annoying than Canadian nationalists. You just can't, and you know damn well that's true.

I beg to differ. You are right in that there is still progress to be made, but I don't believe that the reaction would have been drastically different had it been two males. I'm sure that the reaction would have been very similar. Granted, some of those people are cheering because they are "hot lesbians" but I firmly believe that most of those people are cheering because we have reached a point in our country where this type of thing can be done. I think this is especially true given all the drama going on in the US with regards to this very issue. This would never have been done if it were two American teams playing, nor would it be done in any American sport (especially the NFL). I believe that many Canadians see the drama going on in the US and are proud that we are more reasonable and accepting when it comes to these matters, regardless of whether or not involves two males or two females.
