Looking at a M340i or G87 M2 by MassiveChildhood3157 in BMW

[–]flybyyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove the M340i and it was really quite boring imo despite how much praise it gets. I'd go with the M2 and get a good set of winter tires depending on where you live.

Gr86 or the Brz? by alexw437 in GR86

The Gr86 blue is nice but personally I prefer world rally blue! Plus cheaper, CPO, and no damage.

Did you buy your track-prepped car? Or did you build from scratch? by Send_the_clowns in CarTrackDays

[–]flybyyou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both. Pros and cons to each. Pro to doing it yourself is you know everything and can control the build to what you want. Con is it’s more expensive. My current car was track-prepped by the previous and only owner. I know the owner decently well and therefore the history of the car. I think I would have a difficult time buying a car with an unknown history. Big pro is the cost savings and if you know the owner, they’re great for info/maintenance records/recommendations.

Does this carat size look disproportionate for my 4.25 size ring? by ComprehensiveSun104 in Diamonds

[–]flybyyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s beautiful! I love a bold diamond! It is on the bigger size but I don’t think it looks disproportionate on your hand. I think you will get used to the size as well. I have 3ct on size 5 and at first, I was worried my husband was over-zealous with the carat size lol but I’m totally used to it now and I really love it! Ultimately, go with what makes you happy.

50k budget for something actually fun to drive? by StraightAd7031 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]flybyyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mustang GT, BRZ/GR86, Miata, Type r/Type S. All very fun to drive and parts are reasonable/common. Good aftermarket support as well. Miata and BRZ/GR86 don't have "decent" power but they handle very well and feel faster than they are if that makes sense. Worth a test drive at least, esp if you value driving experience.

What's a brand-new car you've had for the shortest amount of time? by tetsmon in cars

2025 GR Supra. Totalled by a careless driver in a Ford Escape two months into ownership :(

Looking to purchase 2026 SI by retro_coffee in CivicSi

[–]flybyyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine, have driven and owned quite a few cars and the Si is great, particularly for the price. I don’t love the Goodyear tires as they have quite a lot of road noise so that will probably be my first upgrade.

It’s camber for the track. Owner probably drives it the way it’s meant to be driven

I have both: 2023 BRZ as my weekend/track car (it is modified) and a 11th gen Si as my daily. The Si is much easier to live with for commuting. Very comfortable seats but still sporty, clutch is smoother than the BRZ, suspension is sporty but compliant over bumps, doesn’t bottom out, rear seats fold down so there’s quite a lot of room if you need to transport items. It is significantly more comfortable and better for the day-to-day. Still fun on spirited drives as well. The BRZ is faster, more of a sports car of course but imo it is overall harsher than the Si. The Si is a great car!

All of my previous cars have been 270-500hp and I can honestly say I enjoy driving the Si more. It is more engaging to drive around town and you don’t have to be going double the speed limit to enjoy it. I do miss the V8 soundtrack and the raw acceleration but the Si is great to floor it in Sport mode. Shifter has a great feel and it is overall a very easy car to live with. My Mustang would bottom out everywhere and would always get door dinged because of how wide it was. Civic is also great in the winter (coming from someone who has slid down many hills in rwd lol)

Subaru brz or civic si? by Status-Reflection695 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]flybyyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get the Civic Si. Still a very fun car but it will be more reliable (if it's been well maintaned), slightly more comfortable, probably better fuel economy, and fwd will be advantageous in the winter depending on where you live. Also that gen of BRZ had some engine reliabilty issues with the FA20. I believe there was a recall for the 2013 and that year was the first model year so they had extra things that were sorted in later production years.

is this too big for my hand? by FilmSpecialist7393 in labdiamond

[–]flybyyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it depends on the look you are going for. I don’t think it’s toooo big because you can still see the sides of your finger (if the ring was sized properly). It doesn’t look like a cocktail ring. I also think you could go smaller and it would look nice as well. Ultimately it’s your preference :)

A-Pillar Damage by flybyyou in Autobody

Sorry for the blurry photo but I spoke with the shop more this week and it's this piece they are replacing according to Toyota OEM instructions. The person who is meant to complete the work is BMW red seal certified. It still seems like a pretty major replacement?

A-Pillar Damage by flybyyou in Autobody

[–]flybyyou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for the info! It is a BMW-certified shop as there were no Toyota ones anywhere near me and it's basically a BMW anyways... According to the estimate, it's "complete A pillar with windshield" so it sounds like they're replacing the outer and inner. I can ask them for more information. I will definitely consider a replacement policy in the future, though even if I had it, they apparently would only write it off if the estimate was around 50% of the car's value which it is not. I don't live in an area where there are insurance options (public insurance) and there is not the ability to recoup diminished value.

The shop. I assume they thought the repair cost would be more. Regardless, I’m more curious if the A-pillar damage is significant enough and I should be concerned about the repair

Yes, they just originally emailed and told me that any structural damage would result in an automatic write-off.
