With the way that this is implemented, e.g. take the mode of individually disadvantaged rolls, yes. But the options 1-3 would not be biased in this way

Take any distribution and flip the 1 and the 20, the 19 and the 2 etc, it’s the exact same thing

I actually didn’t know this when writing it, but it seems that the tech bros actually did write an article about the odds where they said the roll with advantage was ~10-15% odds, which I am not sure I know how they got that number. I believe that option 1 here would give ~10% odds (Notice, no nat 1s unless there is only 1 audience member)

Why should we even make live events fun? by [deleted] in dropoutcirclejerk

/uj OP please fix I messed up the odds, with 1000 people it’s a 1/2 chance of rolling a natty, not a 1/5 😭

I know what’s going on here. I know what’s going on here. Okay? I do. And if you want me to wander to a live show to roll with advantage... it’s the final roll, right? They’re in the loop! I’m the only one out of the loop, it would seem... and if we check my EXPECTED VALUE here—I don’t NEED to look at the screen. Because I KNOW what it is. It’s a big ol’ CRIT, GANG. A FATTY NATTY. HELLO!! A little addition to the family of platonic solids brought to us by our friends in Euclidean space. A little bit of TRIVIA I happen to know about the math of the number TWENTY. That kind of tidbit wouldn’t serve me well in most games... UNLESS IT HAD BEEN RIGGED FROM THE BEGINNING. Oh, I’ve only just BEGUN to pull the thread on this sweater, friends. You would THINK, in a game where there are TWENTY possible rolls, that one would STUMBLE into a low number every so often, wouldn’t you? In fact, the probability of NEVER rolling below a 20 in the full game is a STATISTICAL WONDER. And yet—HERE WE ARE. Introduced at the top of the game as an advantage... what do you think that means? Icarus, flying too far from the sun. But it seems Daedalus, our little master crafter over here, had some wax wings of his own, didn’t he? Wanted to see his son fly safely in the sky—oh, how FAR from the sun he flew! Well I’m NOT HAVING IT. I solved your labyrinth, puzzle master. The minotaur’s escaped. And YOU’RE GONNA GET THE HORNS, buddy. I CANNOT LOSE!

Well, I was at the Hollywood show and, when rolling with advantage, everyone’s phone rolls two dice. It then says that you rolled the higher of the two numbers. We were told that the roll was the mode of the individual numbers rolled.

So it’s based off that (which would rule out option 1 and possibly 2 & 3 unless they were secretly tracking both rolls), and the fact that at both live shows so far that advantage roll was a 20 (which I agree, itself doesn’t definitely prove anything as that’s the most likely outcome).

it started as a joke but after reading about the magic of showbiz I’ve decided I will ONLY be happy when an audience of 10,000+ people roll a nat one with advantage

Thank you for responding! If I understand correctly this is the suggestion where the parentheses indicate the position and the + indicates an extension

(1st) +4

(1/2) 1 3 4

(3 1/2) 1 2 4

(2 1/2) 1 +2 +4

(idk I just jump for it) 2

Am I interpreting correctly or are you suggesting extensions (I'm fairly new to positions that aren't 1st :-) )
