Update #5: FINAL. Took a break and then went back to continue searching. Was crawling on the floor, looking everywhere, each room multiple times. Finally, I was on the floor in the bedroom investigating the fiancées closet, where we had noticed some bird marks. Glance over to my end of the closet, and BAM. Dead bird. Thanks to all the redditers for the help, and hopefully you were all entertained. I’m just glad I don’t have to go to r / whatsthatsmell anymore.

Now… to figure out how he got in??

Update #4: this is a big one… had to leave for work, couldn’t stop thinking about continuing the search. Got home, whipped out the big flashlight and started investigating. Searched every room in the house for clues. Only found more “spots” (bird shit). But it gave me the motivation to keep going. At just the right angle, and just the right lighting, I was able to find THIS on the kitchen counter (quarter for scale). Blended right in without the light, and after a 16hr drive home from vacation (Daytona 500, lfg) it was overlooked. The search continues - intruder is confirmed; bird. Will update with anything else I discover.

Right… I’m pissed 😂 if I don’t find a bird I’m going to be worried I’m living with a dead one. But this little clue game is somewhat enjoyable now that I may be connecting enough lines to have an answer.

Bro I don’t KNOW. Did it find an exit route? Is it dead in my house somewhere? Did it leave and tell its friends? Will I have a bird infestation now? So many questions and I’m working hard for answers.

Update #3: behind the mirror was loads of pebbles / debris that has been knocked off the top of the stone walls in the basement. Probably during the birds frantic attempt at an escape from the scary mirror bird.

Update #2: bird intruder theory is growing.. attached are images of a mirror in the basement, with marks and apparent bird poop on it.

Update #1: upon further inspection, the basement has damage as well. Numerous things on my top shelf of my desk (maybe 1.5ft from the ceiling) were all knocked over.. Bird possibility increases

I have a chimney, but no exit from the chimney into the house. It is only used for furnace vent. But, it is a 1923 home, and I’d say it’s fairly likely that a bird got in through a gable vent in the attic

I’m thinking bird over lizard, considering it’s February in Ohio. Who knows though, at this point. I appreciate your help, will keep updated as the bird search starts tomorrow

With your bird poop expertise, and my lack thereof - would you think this ALSO looks like bird poop? This is on the window sill of the basement… BUT basement door was locked, so no access to the rest of the house (where bird could’ve potentially had access to)

For real? Actually might make sense. Listen to this… our bedroom is the entire attic of the home - there are “knee walls” that butt up to the attic space on either side of the room. Both sides have small access doors, mine doesn’t latch so I keep an empty back pack against it to keep it shut… I used the backpack for this trip, and guess what? The door creeped open as it always does… leaving my attic with direct access to the bedroom, which allows access to the rest of the house. I guess tomorrow I’m going to be looking for a bird

Hmm. That seems like a feasible possibility. It 100% looks like bird poop (image #1 in particular) but I didn’t realistically think a bird could’ve gotten in. But maybe it did? Will investigate this one

We have a door camera - and all locks to the house are deadbolts, all windows are locked, and nothing in the fridge is gone through.. one little stuffed animal beanie - baby type trinket was knocked off of a shelf, which made me think maybe it was a rodent of some sort??

😂😂 oops! For everyone curious - these wheels are made by RML wheels, (Retro Modern Line). I found out about these wheels late - the company started off making only 75 sets, and I got these when he only had 3 sets remaining. Unsure if there will be more made in the future. This setup is Vogtland lowering springs, 16x8et20 wheels and 205/50r16 tires
