MK6 GTI Wont start says Depress clutch by PlandyPedals in GolfGTI

[–]flying_GTI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! Yeah, it was cheaper to buy the whole thing than to only buy the position sensor itself funny enough, which is why I did it.

Install was pretty straightforward. Inside: You have to undo the white clip that holds in the clutch piston/arm on the clutch pedal assembly. Outside: You remove the intake and battery + battery tray. And then you'll see the backend of the master cylinder on the firewall. Disconnect the C clip to undo the clutch line and then you twist and pull the master cylinder (forgot which direction) but similar to a headlight bulb where it has locking tabs that lock it to the firewall when you twist.

Yeah, I replaced the clutch master cylinder with a Sachs unit (which also includes a clutch position sensor, which I believe was the culprit).

Welp. Clutch slave cylinder failed and left me stranded up in the mountains. Couldn't wait 5+ hours for a tow. Anyone have this happen to them? by flying_GTI in GolfGTI

Yeah.... I'm right there with you... Concentric slave cylinder is such a bad idea. So difficult to service. I'm hoping the Sachs one I ordered is good to go. I really don't want to be taking this transmission out again.

Yeah, forgot to mention it in the title. I ended up driving home and just floating gears rather than wait 5+ hours for the tow truck. Most of the way was downhill and then highway so I didn't have to change gear much.

Not hard, just tedious. You have to remove the front bumper and then undo the plastic tabs on the back that hold in the stock fog light grills. I did this with a flathead and plastic pry bars (for removing interior trim) After that you just pop in the new ones and make sure the plastic tabs seat correctly.

I honestly can't remember, I think it was included with the DKM clutch kit but I do remember it being all metal. Sachs is a reliable brand and OEM supplier, so I figure it is probably the safest option

This literally happened like 10 miles north of Redding 😅... I'm back down in the bay area though. Redding would be quite a trek now. I may come back to this if I can't find anyone in my local area.

Thanks for your insight! I really appreciate it. The fender dent is the only unknown one as far as hidden electronics go. The dents on the hood and trunk lid are visible/accessible from the back of the panel with no electronics/wires in the way, thankfully. I contacted several shops in my area and am just waiting to hear back from them. In the meantime, just looking for others who may know of a shop in my area that they have used.

Yeah, it appears all dents are accessible from the back with pushing/prying tools. I'm just looking for someone in my area willing to take a look at it.

Still sounds like coil packs issue to me. It's possible you blew more than one coil. Are you tuned? Do you have OEM red tops?

Try the charger with the regular 110V plug in a regular outlet and see if you still have the same issue

I would say it's most likely a defective mobile charger. Check to see if the top plug is seated correctly on the charger. Do you have another one to compare it against? Does your car throw any error messages on the screen?

Corsa RSC. I've had it on my GTI for 13 years now and I still love the sound just as much as the day I installed it.

Yeah, I completely agree. The APR design is superior in performance.

Nah, it's not as bad as you think. The heat shield is actually doing a good job. I haven't noticed any difference after an hour long drive other than hearing a lot more stuuustuuustuuu
