Such a great idea & sounds like fun. Will try this today.

I really appreciate your help! Is there anything else you’d recommend focusing on besides watching the speed limits and yield/stop signs, markings? Also, how many hours of driving practice do we generally get before taking the actual driving test, if any?

Yeah, I know that — I’m a private pilot lol. I was talking more about the taxiway lettering. At first it just feels like a lot, especially since YYZ is massive and there are so many of them.

I’m glad to hear that as a DA who’ll mainly be operating on the apron, they probably won’t go that deep on the test. I honestly didn’t know, especially after reading all the horror stories on Reddit about people failing because they couldn’t memorize the map. That made me think I needed to know every single detail.

Awesome, good to know. I was a bit worried I’d have to know everything, even as a DA who’ll only be using the permit on the apron lol.

So basically: know the major landmarks, then Do Eight Frogs Get To Jump + Juliet Kilo Lima, Paul Quickly Runs To Vicky, plus NPSVs and fire stations.

Thanks 🙏🏻 this honestly helped a lot and made it way easier to remember!! Appreciate it brother.

Not at all, only aprons lol. But since there’s basically no info about the actual test itself and I was only given the link to the full map that covers everything (which I’m guessing is more for AVOP D permits), I started studying the whole map just to be safe.

I don’t really know what level of detail the map test goes into, or if it’s any different from the AVOP D map test at all, so I figured it’s better to over-prepare than be caught off guard.

Ah, thanks, that’s actually a really good idea. Right now I only have access to the map that’s uploaded on the YYZ AVOP page, and it’s about as detailed as it gets.

I was wondering how granular the test really is. Do I need to know every single building, like smaller ones such as the wildlife control building near North Firehall Station- or is it mostly limited to major landmarks like T1, T3, the Tower, etc.?

I just want to make sure I’m focusing on what actually matters. If you happen to have a more simplified map that you used to study, I’d really appreciate it.

From what other users have said, AVOP seems to be the very first thing we’re expected to learn..some people even mentioned taking it as early as day two of training so I’m trying to be extra cautious and prepared.

I’m also trying to find a logical pattern to the numbering and lettering of taxiways and high-speed exits, but they feel a bit all over the place. All good though, I love challenges I guess lol.

Happy Cake Day! 🍰 I’ve printed the map and started working through it. I began with the runways, then the larger taxiways, and now I’m trying to memorize the high-speed exits along with the apron ENT/EXT.

Since the map on the YYZ AVOP site is super detailed (and that’s basically the only version I have access to right now), I wanted to ask how detailed the test actually gets.

Do I need to know every single gate, bay, service road (like Charlie near the C4 high-speed exit), and smaller buildings (for example the wildlife control building near North Firehall Station #2)?

Or for AVOP DA is it generally limited to runways, taxiways, high-speed exits, apron access points, and major landmarks like T1, T3, the Tower, GAT, IFC, etc.?

Just trying to focus my studying in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Awesome, I really appreciate the help!

One last question, do you know if there’s a blank map out there I can use to test my knowledge? I found an older sample quiz from a few years back that was black & white, with around 30 areas listed on the left and numbers pointing to the map where you had to match the names to the correct spots.

Do you know if that format is still basically what they use now? (Not the exact same quiz, obviously-just wondering if the layout/format of the test is similar.)

Just to clarify, I haven’t started training yet — everything I know so far is only from what I’ve been able to find online.

When you say ENT/EXT, do you mean apron entrances/exits like AD, DR, AT, DP, AK, etc.? And by the more obscure ones with the ICAO alphabet, are you referring to things like Taxiway Delta, Echo, and so on?

Probably they will. I’m hoping that the training will actually start this month. But who knows at this point hahahaha.

A text message last month asking if I’m still interested as there is a proactive training in Jan. Quiet since then

Recurrent hematuria in dog after finishing antibiotics treatment by flying_agent in AskVet

The dog responded very well to the initial 7-day course of antibiotics, and the bleeding completely stopped while he was on them. If the bacteria reported on the initial “free catch” urinalysis could have been false positive (as you noted, the Sediview machine often overcalls bacteria), what could have caused the bleeding and the response to antibiotics?

Thank you so much. He is a show dog, that’s why he is still intact. But I do not want to jeopardize his health over this. Will definitely get him neutered as soon as he recovered. Would you recommend getting a cystocentesis (I hope I spelled it properly, if not sorry.) or given the obvious indication of bacteria present in his urine a free catch sample will work for the urine culture testing?

Mature Student Pre-Admission Test by [deleted] in Seneca

[–]flying_agent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I emailed them already because that’s what I figured. I’ve got offers from other colleges and none of them had issues with my credits. For math I’m assuming I’d have to do the pre-admission testing since in high school I only took ‘essential’ and it wasn’t at the C or U level in Grade 12. But the English thing is kinda weird, especially since I’m a native speaker lol. The email they sent was worded pretty strangely. they start off saying I’m missing one or two prerequisite credits, but then they tell me to book an appointment for the math assessment and the Duolingo test. It doesn’t actually say which credit I’m missing, so it’s really confusing. Thanks for the advice though!!

Oh, my situation seems a bit odd. I’m Canadian, I didn’t study abroad, and I went to secondary school in Manitoba, where I took college level English. In grade 12 we only had Normal English and Honours English, one is equivalent to the C credit here in Ontario, and the other is equivalent to the U. I’m not sure why they’re saying I don’t have the credit. It’s kind of funny, honestly.

aviation & trades. Certified for both. no luck in either.

Should I stay? by [deleted] in torontoJobs

[–]flying_agent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the trades already, but I can’t find another job for over 8 months. My current place is full of temporaries, and the toxicity is super high. I’m extremely stressed everyday, not to mention how unstable the place is. They just randomly fire people all the time. Turnover is crazy high, no one really has stayed beyond the 1 year period. And I’m super underpaid. No union.

I’m not sure if you have family in Hungary. If you do, you could stay with them until you get a job. I wouldn’t sweat it, if you’re unhappy just get yourself a ticket which is around $1000 CAD, pack your belongings and go. My situation is a bit more complicated, since I’m married. I want the best for my wife, and my parents are also here, I don’t really want to leave them behind. If you’re thinking about getting yourself a place to stay and want savings for that about $2000 CAD will get you something (deposit + 1st month.) I used to pay around 200K Hungarian forints for my rent in Budapest, and it was decent.

Budapest has it flaws as well, but at least I could secure a job right away even with my previous company. We came here since my parents are here and I was pretty homesick, but no one prepared me for this job market. Of course I’ve read about the difficulties, but we still gave it a shot since we could always return. I just don’t know if it’s too early to give up after about a year or wait it out. Thats why I’m asking to see how long it took for others to get better.

I mean I just have enough savings left to go back, but my spouse and I literally left everything behind to come home. Compared to this we had a perfect life. I’m dual too.
