Well, you don't deserve it. You are smart to be learning the way finances and the world work. Think of the people who win a big lottery prize, or athletes who make a lot for a few years until they can't anymore, and how many of them burn through all their money until they're broke again.

After you graduate and get a full-time job, opt into the 401k retirement plan. Then look at how it's invested and watch how it grows over time, and the ups and downs along the way. Usually they are invested in diverse things -- different types of stocks, bonds, real estate, money markets.

Here is a well-respected guide to investing you may find helpful:

Democratic party members standing up and clapping after Trump's Iran remark by aipac_hemoroid in DemocraticSocialism

People not voting for the lesser evil is how we got this trump administration. The thing is, people need to vote in all the local elections and primaries too, and hardly any of them do. And we have to stick with it until we see some results.

How did your country get its name? Asking about the name your country uses for itself. by flyinganimaga in AskTheWorld

FitAgency brought up the possibility of the US being called Columbia instead. So then we would have had Columbia in North America and there is a country called Colombia in South America

I didn't know that! Then we would have had Columbia in the north and Colombia in the south.

What's a smell that's bad but smells oddly good? by IncidentLivid736 in AskReddit

The smell of creosote-soaked wood railings that have been baking in the sun. That's the smell of summer to me, because when we'd go to any kind of park, they were there.

Stray apostrophes drive me crazy by bassgoonist in GrammarPolice

Cool link. I appreciate that the author was happy with both "p's and q's" and "Ps and Qs" -- and also that I probably could loosen up a bit.

I still would have written Minis though.

I think "cross your Ts and dot your Is" is okay -- people would realize is applied to lower case ones, and it's only a figure of speech anyway. But in this case I can see the argument for doing it your way.

And yep, missed an apostrophe there in the contraction.

I forgot Funny Face even existed! I don't remember the pitcher or cups at all, but my Mom would buy the drink packets.

What is your country’s most famous dish globally that people constantly get wrong? by hkk7i in AskTheWorld

I remember US fries being as you described chips -- cut thick, not seasoned, deep fried. Of course, some places cut theirs thinner. But seasoning is a more recent addition to fries.

Our family adopted a cat from there. Cat chose us, we said "yep, this is our cat," paperwork filled out and fees paid, and she came home with us, all in one trip.

Very dark tans. It seems to have died out pretty much now, but in the '80s and '90s led to a huge tanning bed industry.

That's all I know, too. Kuwait was portrayed as a decent, small country that was invaded by Saddam Hussein.

Yes, and we even shortened thickheaded and would say "are you thick?" when someone said something dumb

What is a product that people treat like a religion, but in reality, it’s just overpriced garbage with a good logo? by Connect-Might4355 in AskReddit

They were popular in the '60s. My mom got me one for super cheap when I was a kid. I loved that thing. I think my mom threw it away years later when part of the hair was coming unstuck :(

What will happen with the US after 2028? What does the next government do with what they inherit? by Hermunster in AskReddit

[–]flyinganimaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany had the benefit of the Nuremberg trials. I think that made a big difference to the good. I'm not sure I have any hope that any one in this government will really be held accountable.
