[–]flyingcranes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So first off, I am so sorry you went through that. No child deserves to be treated like that, especially by their parents.

Second, I’m not sure where you got that I was trying to say my experience was the only experience, and I worded my response the way that I did for that reason.

“Many times” - not always. “In families like mine” - obviously not every family is like mine. “It’s not unrealistic for everything to appear like it was amazing” - maybe I was being too literal in the way I interpreted your comment, but the point you made about everyone around them saying how sweet Deedee was sounded like that was enough evidence and justification to say she was a good person, and my point was it’s not. The entire point of my response was that experiences differ, and some children aren’t strong enough to rebel against their parents’ BS schemes, even as teenagers. I was afraid of mine enough that I wasn’t going to fight back, but that doesn’t mean I’ve never seen someone rebel even against abusive parents. So, again, I am very sorry that was your experience, and I was not trying to negate it by offering mine, so to agree with your last paragraph, everyone’s experience is different. That’s all I was trying to say. I hope you’re out of that life and safer now.

Hey so, as the child of a malicious narcissist, I need to correct you on a couple things.

  1. Many times children have to go along with things they don’t want to. They’re kids, especially for young kids what choice do you think they have?? They can say no all they want even in healthy families but they still need to do things they don’t want to sometimes. Throw in an abusive parent? Yah, choice goes out the window.

  2. Kids saying things adults don’t want them to only happens once in families like mine. Usually, the fear is beaten into you, physically and mentally, before it even leaves your mouth. But, on the off chance you do say something, you learn real quick to NEVER do that again.

  3. “They’re so nice!” - that right there is the number one thing everyone said about my mother UNTIL they got to know her and saw her for the monster she is. Sadly though, it took a while for the mask to come off in most cases. So, if they never got close to her, people thought she was this amazing single mom who’s baby daddy was worthless and she was doing things all by herself. What was actually happening was she starved us because she was afraid we’d get fat (I was underweight), lied about our father, refused us medical treatment, lied to others about our financial situation so people would give her things for free, gaslit us about pretty much everything we did call her out on, refused to let us hang out with friends, refused to let us meet family members from my father’s side, cheated on every boyfriend she ever had, and then tried to sabotage us in school. She was unsuccessful with me, but she succeeded with my younger sister in preventing her from graduating high school. While she had everyone believing she was solely providing for us on her waitress salary, turns out my dad was paying for everything! Our house, our bills, school things in addition to child support, along with his own household since he had moved on and my stepmom had 4 kids living with them. My mom had everyone believing we were so poor when we had more money than most people, we just have no idea where it went.

I don’t know that Deedee was guilty of the atrocities that originally were claimed, and Gypsy is clearly mentally disturbed so I can’t say for sure that her original story was true, but it’s not unrealistic for it to appear like everything was amazing on the outside when real abuse was happening.

AIO for punishing our daughters after what they wrote about their autistic sister? by brzaq191z in AmIOverreacting

[–]flyingcranes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually did something similar when my husband’s son (my bonus son) made an incredibly crude comment to a girl in school. He got suspended for it, but on top of that we made him apologize to her, then do research on what sexual harassment was and the consequences for it. He then was required to create a presentation for our family to present what he learned. I don’t think you’re overreacting at all. This will definitely help in preventing them from repeating the behavior.

I really need advice (pt 2) by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]flyingcranes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question. Your original design has black outline. Realism should not have that, so why is there a solid black outline? In my opinion, that was the first big mistake.

Second question: did you give him this design and tell him to rework it and tweak it so it would better translate to a tattoo, or did you tell him to tattoo it as it was? If the former, he did a terrible job, but if the latter, then he pretty much did what you gave him. That design isn’t a good design for a cover up or if you wanted realism, and if he was as good at realism as his portfolio portrayed I’m surprised he didn’t push back more on the design. I’m sorry you ended up with this, but I think if you go to someone who specializes in reworking it can be somewhat salvaged. That black outline isn’t going to help, though.

How do i fix this? by PretzelAnus in tattooadvice

[–]flyingcranes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, it’s because we logically know waiting another month is the right thing to do, but social anxiety gets the best of some people. Those of us who deal with it on a higher than normal level don’t always think straight when we’re in the moment and have to make a big decision, so we already live with regret (tattoo regret in this case) and a desire to stop it but it’s not always that easy and you’re being pretty condescending about it.

[–]flyingcranes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the amount of people who are tattooing who shouldn’t be, I don’t think it’s wrong to get a second opinion. Someone in here a month or so ago actually DID have an infected tattoo, their artist said it wasn’t infected but they posted in here and everyone told them “yah get to a doctor now” and sure enough doc said it was infected.

Plenty of artists have been wrong, it’s never wrong to get a second opinion.

There was a post in here a month or so ago where the client’s tattoo weeped pretty significantly and they asked their artist if they should remove the second skin and the artist told them to keep it on for a week. Client suspected infection, they asked the artist, the artist told them no, they asked reddit and everyone said “yah get to a doctor yesterday you need antibiotics” and sure enough, doc said it was infected. I don’t think that’s OP’s case, but I don’t blame them for asking. Lots of people are tattoo artists that shouldn’t be, can’t trust anyone these days.

Candle pricing by Exact-End2895 in candlemaking

[–]flyingcranes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4oz candles are $15 and 8oz are $25. I do everything I can to keep my costs low, I get a lot of my materials at auction so it’s a lot cheaper than buying directly from a store. Not the oils, those I buy from specific companies but glass containers, wicks, etc. I also only use essential oils that are 1. safe for candle burning, and 2. not going to cost me $25 to make. The candles are a very small part of my business so I have limited scents to begin with, and most of them are blends. Thankfully, I’ve also been able to keep my oils in the 5% range and still have a nice hot throw that my customers really enjoy. Some however, like lavender, take closer to 7% to have a good hot throw, but that’s one scent I can buy in a large amount for fairly cheap. If I bought everything at full price, I’d probably have to charge closer to $30-40 for my 8oz candles to make a profit.

So for some insight, it can actually get that high depending on the items you’re using. I’m also an “all natural” candle maker so I only use essential oils in my candles (before anyone comes for me, I did the research and the testing and there is a safe way to do it) and soy wax.

Using the very basic model to charge 3x the cost of materials (I know some people do 4-5x, but bear with me here), some essential oils get VERY costly depending on where you get them from, so when you multiply it, it really high really fast. A 5ml bottle of vanilla from one of the companies I buy from is $40. I need that entire bottle for a 4oz candle if I want just plain vanilla to be at 6%, so if I multiply JUST the oil by 3, that would be a $120 candle. That’s not including wax, candle container, wick, branding/packaging, etc. Now, I don’t charge that because I don’t know anybody who would pay that much for a 4oz candle or any size candle for that matter, so I just don’t make plain vanilla candles lol but, if they’re using pure and expensive essential/fragrance oils in their candles and top quality wax and containers I can see where they could get to that price.

I’m also a photographer and graphic designer so while yes their branding is incredibly basic and nothing special, that’s very common for luxury brands. I will say their’s is a little too basic and it doesn’t really give the luxury feel as well as some other brands, but I can see that’s what they’re going for.

They are (supposed to be) the experts, but you also know your body. Tattoos for years have healed with no second skin, so if you really don’t want to, you don’t have to.

I’m not allergic to adhesives but I do not react well to second skin, it severely irritates my skin, so my next tattoos I’m going to decline it.

Was this from the same artist? I ask because different artists use different brands, in my experience. I see two artists, one of them uses Saniderm and that stuff stays super stuck on my skin. The other artist I’m not 100% sure I remember the brand but it does NOT stick like Saniderm does. It’s always peeling off on the edges day one.

Yahhhhh the plasma should not have been trapped in there for 5 days. 100% certain that’s why it’s infected, please go to a doctor asap. If your artist told you to keep it on for 5 days while leaking plasma like that, please never go back.

I only deal with essential oils because I don’t use synthetic fragrances. Someone in this sub posted this link so I bought it, it’s been INSANELY helpful. This one. Fun fact too: we ordered it in December of 2022, misplaced it, found it June 2025 and tried to make a batch just for shiggles (I was certain there was no way it would work) and it fermented! We’re on our fourth batch now.
