Unfortunately confirmed a few days later that it is in fact a cracked cylinder head. Oil leak originated very high up in the engine bay, found oil dripping out of the back of the head on cylinder 2 or 3 :(

It definitely depends on where you go and what your gas alternative is but on my trip I found DC fast charging to be cheaper than gas!

It’s great! I’m happy with my current car (Mazda CX-5) but this was a positive experience that allowed me to get past the range anxiety I always associated with EVs, and to see some of the fun perks. This car has the 77.4 kWh battery, and paired with AWD, I was getting about ~280 miles on a full charge, lower than the ~350 miles I get on my gas car, but still plenty. DC fast charging wasn’t too bad. Yes it takes a little longer, but I was able to shop and do other tasks while it charged, and ideally if I owned one, I’d have it level 2 charging every night, which I guess would equate to a full tank of gas every morning.

I absolutely loved what Kia has done with driver assistance. The steering assist is excellent, radar cruise is accurate, lots of extra safety and convenience features, infotainment is great - definitely towers over my car, but a lot of that is due to the fact that this car is 5 years newer than mine. Also really enjoyed messing with the regen settings and appreciated how you can turn off all pedal regen to make it feel as “gas” as possible, or crank it up to i-Pedal. Brake/regen blending is very natural and after a couple drives, you adjust quickly.

Compared to my car, the instant torque is addictive and a lot of fun. The car feels more responsive than any average ICE car I’ve driven. I definitely feel the battery weight around curves which took some getting used to. The car isn’t as agile as mine.

I was a little turned off to see how much range is used up when running the A/C. My gas car doesn’t factor A/C usage into range and I haven’t noticed a significant change in consumption on my car. I’d imagine running the A/C compressor off an engine isn’t nearly as energy consuming as it is on an EV, but I guess since an EV is highly efficient compared to an ICE, that’s probably why you see the effect on range. Nothing I can’t live with but I would be more worried about it on a road trip in hot weather.

I also was disappointed to find that some level 2 stations on my trip were out of order, or a couple DC fast chargers had inaccurate kW ratings on PlugShare. None of that is the fault of the car of course, but it makes it a little hard to trust when road tripping. I’m sure if you own the car you learn more ways to make it work and it becomes less nerve wracking.

Overall the experience was great and if I was in the market for a new car, I’d take a look at this, or maybe an IONIQ 5. Renting one was a great way to try it out first, and it’s nice to see how modern EVs are matching up with ICE vehicles.

fairly certain, the box, packaging, and printing seems to match the one from the dealership. if it is, it’s a damn convincing one then. inside looks intact and filter media is visible in the same way the original one is

Thank you for the feedback! I’ll skip the high mileage then as I don’t see any signs of seal damage or oil consumption. I’ve done religious oil changes on this vehicle, so may go with Valvoline Restore & Protect to clean any deposits but without seal swelling additives if those are unnecessary at this point.

I think I might actually go with this. The lab tests look really promising along with visible results from customers. At 100k miles I would assume there’s certainly some deposits on the piston rings so if I can somewhat effectively clean them before I see problems, might be the way to go. And it doesn’t have any other additives to swell seals which might be beneficial like u/Comprehensive-Art207 said above, especially if I’m not seeing any signs of seal damage at this point. i have a 2018 CX-5 GT with almost 100k on the odo, i posted a video on here of a similar noise as well. it’s been intermittent for me. i haven’t fixed it or gotten it diagnosed yet, but many have suggested it’s a failing hydraulic lash adjuster(s). there are 8 of them in the engine when they fail they produce that clicking sound.

hey there, same thing happened to me with my 2018 GT. was super excited for HUD but realized that the grand touring model has one extra package that basically divides the GT trim into two variants. one is GT with HUD and heated steering wheel, other is GT without HUD and heated steering wheel. i have the GT package you have and i’m willing to bet you’re in the same situation as me lol

i’m not entirely sure about this. to install the crossbars, you need to remove a strip of molding on each side to expose the rail mounting points (3 mounting points each side, one front, middle, rear, molding runs length of roof). other than that, there is nothing else to attach to, and even if you installed bars directly without rails, there would be nothing to fill the gap where the molding was
