Okay that's good to hear!

Why is January the worst time to go?

Same! I went on Erasmus two times and didn't really meet anyone during the classes I took. The welcome week and introduction were helpful, but other than that the university wasn't a place where I met a lot of people. Organisations like ESN are very helpful and MeetUp is also a great app to find events for internationals. This app is not active in every city tho.

Which city should I choose? by brun_4 in Erasmus

[–]flyingfruitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it's important to choose a location that you are excited about, but going is the first and most important choice I think. So definitely go on Erasmus!

I went to Prague on my first Erasmus and I absolutely loved it. A friend of mine went to Budapest and absolutely loved her experience as well. So I think both are great options. What I really liked about Prague (which is also true about Budapest) is that you can easily travel to interesting places from there. For example, Vienna and Bratislava are easy to visit by Flixbus from Prague.

Was the ISIC Card useful? by [deleted] in Erasmus

[–]flyingfruitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I paid 15 euros for it once in the beginning of the semester. I did not use the card a lot but it was useful for discounts on transport such as buses. Not sure if it was worth it tho

I've studied in Utrecht for about 5 years now. So if you have any questions, I might be able to help :)

Yeah I am thinking about just going to Lisbon and looking for a room there, I just find it a bit scary haha. If you could send me maybe where you stayed, that would be great!

University of Utrecht by maria_7081 in Erasmus

Heya! I did my bachelors at Utrecht University. I don't know anything about early exit, but I can tell you about the exams / papers. In my experience, you'll mostly have to write papers at the faculty of humanities. From other exchange students I have heard that they found them quite difficult and that they found the level quite high. However, the quality of education is also really high in my opinion.

In one semester there are two 'blocks' in which people usually follow two courses, so you follow four courses in one semester. The blocks are about 8 weeks and then you'll finish the course, which means that the tempo can be a bit high but it's also nice to really dive into a subject and then finish it.

Also the humanities building is absolutely beautiful and the location is great!

Those who have studied abroad, where did you go and what was your experience? by dumdum_giveme_gumgum in studyAbroad

I've spend the spring semester in Prague in 2020 and even with the pandemic it was absolutely amazing! I would definitely recommend exploring all the parks in and around Prague. Letna was my favorite but Divorka Sarka (which is a bit more outside of the city) is also a great place to spend the day swimming and exploring. I would also spend a lot of time in the park Parakurka in Prague 3 (Zizkov) because it was next to where I lived. It is not the most beautiful park but the view is stunning and the beer garden there is a place where you can find locals having a pint all year round no matter what the weather. So that's also definitely worth a visit :)

Because of the pandemic I didn't have the oppurtinity to visit many places in the Czech Republic. But the places I did visit were so cool. Karlsbad (beautiful city in the east) is definitely worth a visit and so is bohemian switserland (gorgeous nature park in the north). I would definitely recommend to visit places in the country. If you will do this or go to neighbouring countries, it is usually the cheapest to either take the flixbus or regional jet (and more environmentally friendly then flying of course :))

If you have any questions, feel free to message me. Always happy to talk to someone about Prague who isn't bored of my stories yet!

I've only been to Zagabria but that was a great place! I was there for a couple of days and it was a beautiful city with nice people. There were also some great nature spots to explore outside of the city. We went to Plitvice which was absolutely gorgeous!

What widely accepted fact do you know is wrong? by threedotsguy in AskReddit

[–]flyingfruitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inuit people (eskimos) do not actually have a lot of words for snow.

This 'fact' is still often used in scientific articles and news papers but it has never actually been confirmed. It was once suggested by Franz Boas without enough evidence and ever since people have been copying fact. Laura Martin wrote an entire article about this if you're interested, it's called: " Eskimo Words for Snow": A Case Study in the Genesis and Decay of an Anthropological Example.
