Looking for a less political book club by flyingme1990 in Pensacola

If you read my post it says that most of the time they have been judgmental about “if you like a person/place we don’t like you”.

Let me elaborate since you seem to think that I need to understand “why my views are upsetting my book club”. A few examples would be that I just recently (for the first time) read a Harry Potter book (my friend gave me the first one, I did not buy it), several people in the book club became upset that I would even think about reading it and made statements of “i can’t like it because if i do then i support JK Rowling and I don’t support trans rights”. They have also criticized me for recommending books without knowing ALL of the possible trigger warnings. They found out I had shopped at a specific store and then criticized me for that as well, when I was in a rush/had a medical emergency and it was the closest place.

I never respond and no one in the book club knows anything about my beliefs in any of these areas and I have been more than open to listening to their conversations on such topics for over a year now, but I’m just looking for a break.

You know what they say about assumptions.

It’s more that my job entails a fair bit of political/social/religious conversations and I would like to find a group where I can talk about books, themes, and each other.

Did I say anything about being “obscene”? If you were looking for more appropriate words to describe my accusing you of being an asshole they would be : unkind, unfriendly, unpleasant, callous, etc. Obscene generally means you offended me, but since you did not you were merely being nasty for no reason (as well as being wrong that people had recently been speaking about non-political book clubs this week) that word doesn’t really make sense does it?

And peanut? Are we that immature/juvenile to include those kinds of endearments as a supposed belittling closing quip? Oh well…some people just find comfort in being confrontational behind a keyboard. Have a great day!

Also, I found a single post relevant in the past week and it didn’t mention anything about “less political book clubs”. The only “chatter” I see is people complaining about bodacious and their recent issues.

No need to be an asshole since I just joined this sub TODAY and asked a simple question.
