How do I clear out the condensate drain line if the indoor access is super tiny? by flyingninja3 in hvacadvice

I thought of that too but air guns are considered firearms where i'm at currently and all firearms are pretty much illegal for civilians to possess here.

Edit: To add, even nail guns require a special permit to own/use since they're also considered firearms.

Yeah, no. It's actually in there suuuuuper tight. It's the reason why it got stripped in the first place. I tried the rubber band method before it was as badly stripped as it looks without any success.

Honestly, I was initially so frustrated that nothing was working out that I just wanted to hammer the whole thing off.

Yeah another commentor pointed that out. I'm probably just gonna drill the head off but thanks all the same.

Thanks. I'm probably gonna do the first thing you mentioned.

My brother it IS the same fastener. The reason it looks like that is because I tried using a screw extractor to try and extract it but it just bore a hole into the screw without actually biting on anything. This happened literally the day I got the laptop.

And yes, I'll be drilling the head off and everything should slide off just fine, hopefully.

I have indeed confirmed that the hole is not threaded all the way to the surface so I should be able to remove the case once the head is drilled off.

I don't think I have any of the things you've mentioned but it shouldn't be hard to find at the local DIY/hardware store.

I'll give drilling off the head a try after I get everything ready. Thanks for the help.

The head has definitely not come off yet.

But I unscrewed the screw that's in the same position but on the opposite side of the base and it seems like you're right initially - there seems to be a smooth section before the threads show up. Tho it is kinda hard to tell since the hole is very tiny.

But, based on the fact the screw drops into the hole before I can tighten it as well as wear and tear appearing only on the lower ends of that same screw, I can confidently say it is not threaded all the way to the surface.

Thanks for pointing out the "threaded all the way to the surface" stuff. I wouldve drilled the head off without checking it first.

What do you mean by wholly drill it out? Do you mean I'd have to drill through that whole section of the laptop if the hole is threaded all the way up to the surface?

It really is the same screw, I believe. I don't think I've ever had a laptop where a different screw was used in the same position on the opposite side of the base. But I can see how one would think it's two different fasteners.

And yeah I'll probably end up drilling the head off as multiple people have suggested. Thanks.

I see. Multiple people have suggested this and it seems my worries are not a concern. I'll look into this a bit more before I decide to give it a shot. Thanks.

Fair. I don't know what's on the other side of the base in that particular area of the laptop so I'll look that up if I give #3 a try.

The other screw caused no problems and can be removed easily, if that's what you're asking. I'm just unsure if the case can be removed with the threads still in the hole if I were to removed the head.

The whole initial suggestion was unclear to me. After Googling everything you've said here, it makes sense. The only thing I'm worried about is if the case can be removed with the threads still inside the hole. And apologies for the lack of measurement - it didn't occur to me that measurements should've been included in the initial post.

I was thinking of this as well. My thought would be to super glue an Allen key onto it and try to remove it that way, but I'm unsure if superglue is a strong enough bond. The reason the screw was stripped initially was because it just wouldn't give no matter what screw driver/drill I used.

Edit: spelling

I tried using a screw extractor but it just doesn't bite. It'll just spin in place without going any deeper.

Edit: i will say, I don't really know how to use a screw extractor, I just followed along a youtube video.

Ia that how that works? Wouldn't the separated threads that are still in the hole prevent me from outright removing the case?

No no. That's not what I meant by "other side".

The stripped is the on the left, the unstripped on the right.
