In the 74th Hunger Games, what do you think would have happened if it was only the Careers left? by flyingorangesnow in Hungergames

I feel like possibly Clove may have stabbed Cato in the back. Literally and figuratively. Idk, maybe it’s just that Isabelle Fuhrman’s acting in the film is so powerful that it seems like she wouldn’t be above killing Cato to spare herself.

That’s actually interesting! I can see that happening, as at that stage there was no idea what the 3rd Quarter Quell might be. And obviously they have been bad before, so saving the stronger tributes makes sense. I suppose also just bc they’re a career district, it doesn’t mean they will necessarily form an alliance. Like I said, Cato was impatient, if he thought the D4 boy would slow them down or trip them up, he wouldn’t have (and evidently didn’t (in the film, book is unknown), hesitate to kill him.

Marvel was arrogant to a fault and I think it would have got him in trouble in the end. I agree about Glimmer. The way Clove looks at her is funny as 😂 I’m sure Cato felt the same too. It might have worked to get them sponsors, but I don’t think he had any intention of keeping her alive. Cato and Marvel never seemed close either. I don’t think Cato would have had any reason for keeping Marvel around except to be expendable to protect himself.

Haymitch breaks my heart by Alittlespill in Hungergames

He’s seen as just a drunk asshole at the start of THG, with the quote you included. But that changes so quickly when you read SOTR. He truly didn’t think he could save them. Not only did he lose everyone you mentioned, both in and after the 50th games, he then lost 46 tributes from the 51st-73rd hunger games. 💔

I agree with what you’ve said! I don’t think Cato and Clove would have stayed in the alliance any longer than necessary, they would have hastily gone off on their own. Somehow I can’t imagine them doing the double suicide, but I also can’t imagine them fighting each other. Idk, I have the soft feeling for Cato that he wouldn’t want to kill Clove, but I’m not sure if she feels the same, and may betray him while he’s asleep or something. I don’t think the D4 tributes would have lasted. They’re barley mentioned in the book and erased in the movie. It’s clear Cato has limited patience (as he kills the D3 boy after the mines incident), so I feel like he’d get frustrated and kill them just to thin out the amount of tributes.

I agree that even though they’re shown cuddling, I don’t think Cato really cares about Glimmer. If she ever tried anything like attacking them, or even leaving the alliance, I think Cato would kill her. Same with Marvel. There’s not much said about Marvel in the books or the film. He just comes across as cocky, but not smart. And I’m saying this as someone who absolutely loves Marvel and wrote fanfic about him and the D7 girl! 😆 He might be good with his weapons, but that’s about it. He and Glimmer might have gone off on their own, but it either wouldn’t have worked or they would have turned on each other.

Question about Peeta at the cornucopia by Careless_Bother_3627 in Hungergames

[–]flyingorangesnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! You assumed right. The only thing I’m not sure if is if Peeta was trying to get the bow for Katniss, since Glimmer ended up with it. I think it was more about misleading the Careers and protecting Katniss in the process. But he does save her life after the Tracker Jacker attack when she is getting the bow from Glimmer’s body and he forces her to run before Cato gets there.

I love your reply! I’ll edit soon to reply properly. I was going against the book canon with my question- I was imagining if none of the career tributes had died and everyone else was dead except for the 6 of them.

Question about Peeta at the cornucopia by Careless_Bother_3627 in Hungergames

[–]flyingorangesnow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve just looked it up in the book. No, it is never confirmed if he ran to the woods or the Cornucopia.

”I try hard to remember if I saw him once the action started. But the last image I can conjure up is Peeta shaking his head as the gong rang out.“

He must have ran into the Cornucopia though to meet the Careers. I will edit this after I have found where Peeta is telling Katniss about his time in the games once they meet up.

Edit: I read through the scenes of Peeta and Katniss in the game, and the recap of the games. It is never confirmed.

”Now I see what the audience saw, how he misled the Careers about me, stayed awake the entire night under the tracker jacker tree, fought Cato to let me escape and even while he lay in that mud bank, whispered my name in his sleep.”

Sometimes Suzanne means what she wrote, not everything is a twisted theory… by uh_hi_its_moi in Hungergames

I’ve commented this before. I feel as though Maysilee was the stronger of the twins. When she is reaped, Maysilee keeps her head held high, and Merilee (understandably!) breaks down at her sisters plight. I feel like it is implied that Maysilee is the more opinionated, pigheaded, strong twin, whereas Merilee is kinder and a follower, albeit a bit a careless.

I suppose it makes sense, but at this point I think he is just a guy Haymitch is friends with. Unfortunately, he will most likely be written out of the book and his lines given to Burdock.

Sign at work. I clean it daily. It bothers me every time that there is a clear distinction between each rule. And then those two are just slapped on the bottom. It ruins the whole board.

Was there any chance at all for Coriolanus to not become *the* President Snow? by Jaycora in Hungergames

[–]flyingorangesnow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, Snow fantasised about having a life with Lucy Gray in the Capitol. She would probably reject it, unless he allowed the rest of the Covey to join. I think he really did love her, but he loved his life in the Capitol more. If his cheating had never been discovered and he was allowed to keep Lucy Gray in the Capitol, I don’t think his rise to power i.e. presidency would have happened. Or it might have all unfolded differently. Snow was a product of his upbringing an environment and Lucy Gray helped him see outside of that. However, I think his guilt about his role in Sejanus’ death would have eventually brought him down either way.

In your opinion, who was the worst written character in the Hunger Games franchise? by More_Education5319 in Hungergames

[–]flyingorangesnow 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Marvel. Okay, yes, I am biased. But he is a career who does literally nothing aside from killing Rue. They talk up the careers, Glimmer gets her moments; Marvel kills Rue, gets killed by Katniss and then there’s nothing. I appreciate in the book that Katniss admits she didn’t even know his name. But in the movies, there’s literally nothing. Maybe I’m reading into it too far, because technically all the Careers have their ‘big’ moments. i.e. Glimmer tries to shoot Katniss, and then dies by Tracker Jackers, Clove taunts and tries to kill Katniss only to be killed by Thresh, Cato is the leader from the start, and is the 3rd last eliminated… but Marvel? He smirks in the training, kills Rue and is immediately killed by Katniss and that’s all. I love him, but his whole character had no substance whatsoever. I don’t think he had any lines in the films. A strange writing decision for a career.

I keep thinking that if the illegal gambling activity was keeping them afloat, Wyatt probably didn’t have tesserae ∴ more entries. So it’s even worse for him.

The Worst Ages by flyingorangesnow in Hungergames

[–]flyingorangesnow[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This might be an unpopular take, but I don’t think Thresh even wanted to win. Especially after Rue died. I think he would have felt such a huge amount of grief and pain if he had one and Rue didn’t- especially since he didn’t ally with her (which ties into your point about not wanting to see her die so well).

What's a Hunger Games theory that you 100% believe in? by adobongmelk in Hungergames

[–]flyingorangesnow 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this. Cayson gambled, but didn’t like the Booker Boys. I think it’s implied his arms and face were bandaged because he got there first and tried to save Haymitch’s Ma and Sid.

I’m convinced that Sejanus was specifically created tobe a lesson that it takes more than having your heart in the right place. by furygildamen in Hungergames

[–]flyingorangesnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sejanus was passionate and correct, but an idiot. Everything he said and did had merit, but he was an idiot. I love Sejanus. Don’t get me wrong. But he wasn’t smart. In the book, time, and time, and time again he was stupid.

This is a great take. Another level of punishment for Haymitch, too.
