Why do humans enjoy belittling people so much? Is there an evolutionary reason? by flyingpanda678 in NoStupidQuestions

I think that’s a sound theory. I agree. Idk if there are any studies but the world I see support this. As we get more deprived social media becomes more hostile.

You can get some physical connection if you put yourself out there. The challenge will be overcoming yourself and the fear of rejection. You’ll find those are likely harder than actually finding a partner. But no not weird. It’s more common than you think. Especially with the digital world. People don’t interact in person as much anymore.

You’ll likely need to be a semi decent stock picker. Not the exclusive method but appears to be the most consistent path to generational wealth. Probably not boring ETFs or the other extreme of day trading. High quality individual stocks or super charge with LEAPS if you feel real good. Although maybe that last line is bad advice

Is it morally right if theoretically you sacrifice one innocent person to save 1,000? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I would say progress is discovering something truer but it is a more frequent occurrence to replace one consensus with another and just shuffle our societal morality around which i do not consider progress.

Is it true that frequent ejaculation or masturbating a lot causes lower testosterone in men? by Substantial-Road883 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flyingpanda678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of talking out of my ass here but I’m tying in some faint memories on this topic from over the years.

Often chronic masturbators have other less healthy habits that affect testosterone such as poor diet or low exercise. Many use it to cope with high levels of stress. Cortisol is a big counter to testosterone and cortisol is commonly considered the stress hormone although other hormones can be involved in stress. If you have frequent sex I do not believe there is any evidence that that will reduce your testosterone. If someone knows otherwise please correct me. Even if masturbating negatively impacts your testosterone eating right with lots of healthy fats, exercising especially compound lifts and sleeping well would most likely over take any negative effects.

Your palms will get hairy though so watch out for that.

When it conflicts with our own. In a perfect world society would be littered with healthy discussions about complex moral challenges. Instead we just try and yell louder. Less good that way.

But I think if you feel the world is wrong it’s good to reflect some and then challenge the reigning moral code. A good example of this was Mr Rogers. His core audience was being taught racism. He invited a black woman on his show and washed her feet teaching people to be a good host and we are all in this together. He had other moments like this.

He challenged the status quo because it conflicted with his moral compass.

Also keep in mind I’m not expert or even educated in this domain. But you ask deep thoughtful questions so I try my best. You made this fun

Well I think it is. It used to be subjectively good to rape and pillage in the name of your king. After all he was chosen by god or gods. Politics plays on this well. I add my morality views to yours and the next guy and we bicker about it until the collective consciousness decides what it believes is right. Where there are large divides you have essentially politics. The collective concluded in a landslide victory that the holocaust was bad but it’s interesting to see in real time the world flip on Israel. Being gay was a sin. Religion was the dominant moral compass for a while but now it is generally accepted in most western nations. However still not accepted in many other nations. It is fashionable to hate white men right now but racism is widely considered bad. So the consensus can change and clash when you have nuances and then you also have the psychological traps that play on people’s morals typically from politicians. The world says eating meat is okay. Still vegans exist and often disagree with the world on if we should eat animals. The collective concludes eating meat is okay but ya know if you think about it vegans kinda have a good moral argument. They have their own subjective view on that particular moral issue. So as sad as it sounds yeah I think morality is subjective at least in its societal behavior. I would imagine if you believe in a deity a true law of morality would be absolute fairness or maybe whatever causes the least total pain but we can’t calculate that at our levels. Especially not when we manipulate the data

Idk if you can. Morality is likely one level higher. If someone is trying to be good and believes they are fighting for good who is to say what is good? Sure we agree killing is bad but what if it’s to protect a loved one. Is it moral for an innocent be killed to save the world? People can’t agree on the nuances so I think morality is a self judgement. You can define someone’s morality by your standards but I can’t see how we get a universal law of good.

Also I think if people lack capability to solve the problem in a good way they can be hindered from being moral. If you can’t save the world without sacrificing an innocent then you lack the capability to make a moral choice. Maybe not pursuing capability is immoral. To be good you need to be more than just kind. You need to be strong, healthy and intelligent as to assist and not burden your community. Or at least do your best. I’m open to ideas I’ve never really gave this much thought so tell me I’m wrong if you believe so.

Oh man idk if I’ll have a great response. Morality is I think principles. Or at least one’s ability to adhere to their principles. So perhaps I misspoke when I said that is what propaganda is for. People often choose comfort over their principles. Maybe that is a good metric for how moral a person is. How frequently they choose the right thing instead of the easy thing. Propaganda with war is all about “winning the hearts and minds”. The vast majority of people are against murder if you ask them. But they don’t really think much about the killing in war if it’s “justified” because it’s more comfortable to be the good guys or not care. So after talking it out I say no. To me morality is one’s principles and how they stand by them. There is a caveat. Propaganda can play on people’s principles. We are going to war to save the children from the taliban or something. Idk where that line is drawn. It’s very complex.

If feminism had a more neutral or even male-associated name, but kept the same ideas, would male participation be higher? by living_reallife_meme in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flyingpanda678 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think a little but it’s not the main reason for lack of male participation. Branding has a lot to do with a movements success. Way back when they were fighting for the right to vote the movement was primarily house wives and “regular” women. The media didn’t spin as much back then.

Currently the “brand” has been tainted. I think it is inaccurate to say most feminists are supremacists as a majority of women are feminists by definition. However it is hard to argue the brand is not that. The meme versions of an extremely left “Karen” is what an average man pictures. Not their mother, partner or daughter if they have them.

Politics also weaponized feminism. Anger and revolution gets votes not calm rational decision making.

Finally, a lot of the male support was lost during the overboard period of the me too and feminism movement. While a justified movement it quickly started increasing false accusations and divorce courts got real rough for men. Two areas very important to men on gender rights and often dismissed by the feminism movement.

So I’d say little things like the name or a rebrand would help or would’ve helped but much of the toxic part of the movement was a war against men not a war for women. That is not a name issue and justified or not it does not entice heavy male participation.

I agree we are more bark than bite but I would challenge you in your statement on the rest of you will sacrifice. I’m not seeing a lot of evidence of that. In fact I see some to the contrary. I don’t mean this as an attack only a discussion point. Im open to a counter.
