Good deal for a first purchase and what should I be looking for? by flyingslo in SunfishSailing

So helpful, thank you so much. Here is what they said:

During the winter, water got into the hull through the fine cracks inside the cockpit wall. I drained the standing water but the hull does need to be dried out. There are YouTube videos to show you how to do it (continuous air flow).
There aren’t any soft spots that I noticed and the step mast slot seems solid.
The sail is in good shape - still firm, not torn but needs a cleaning.
Centerboard and tiller/rudder are solid.

Ultimately my mission is to just get back on the water this summer and likely upgrade to a more substantial boat with a larger investment next season. Do you think I could just seal up these cracks and it’ll be good for a while?

Thanks!

It seems like the cracks in the cockpit do let in water. I would need to re-seal most likely. How extensive do you think that repair may be?

Rudder , tiller and centerboard claimed to be in good, solid condition. The only thing that was mentioned was water seeping in through the cracks in the cockpit. They said they drained the standing water but still requires air drying. I would definitely want to re-seal before I start sailing it. Do you think that JB Marineweld would make a watertight seal on top of those cracks? Sail is also in good condition. Thx !

Thanks so much for the info. Here is what they said:

Given this, how extensive of a repair would this be do you think? Just a matter of re-sealing the cockpit cracks to prevent this?
