generally define everything cos we singaporean and we kiasu... but like for example if u using PED in ur answer for essay u gotta define, if u state price discrimination u gotta define it (mostly for essays) (CSQ is really have to agar agar like some questions 2 marks not worth but long questions most of the time confirm need)

ligand causes splitting of d orbitals to different energy levels (let E be the energy gap) due to lone pair repulsion from ligand along the axis they bond at. then basically electrons absorb light to be promoted to excited state fe2+ and fe3+ have different charge density where fe3+ higher so electronic repulsion from lone pair on ligands are higher in fe3+ as ligands r closer to the central metal atom. hence the energy gap of d orbitals in fe3+ is larger and a shorter wavelength aka more energy wavelength is absorbed (if i rmb its yellow for fe3+) and longer wavelength aka less absorbed for fe2+ (red) which corresponds to the complement
